Dr David Galbraith Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Companion Animal Health

The scholarship was established in 2013 and is maintained by an annual gift from Dr David

Galbraith.

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support meritorious students to pursue postgraduate research to improve the health and quality of life of feline and canine companion animals.

Type: Research Higher Degree, Living Scholarship

Tenure: The scholarship may be held for a maximum of 3 years. The scholarship is awarded as the tenure falls vacant.

Value: $27,500 per annum.

The Scholarship is open to research higher degree candidates pursuing research to improve the health and quality of life of feline and canine companion animals. Citizenship: Australian,

Process

The Dean of the Graduate School may award one scholarship to a student on the recommendation of the Head of Veterinary Science.

The Head of Veterinary Science must establish a selection committee, comprising -

• The Head, or nominee, as chair of the committee; and

• The Donor, or nominee, and

• At least one member of the university’s academic staff who is currently undertaking research in a companion animal health related field, with university staff comprising the majority.

Applicants will be ranked on the basis of:

• the applicant’s academic performance as a MPhil or PhD student, to date; and

• strength of interest shown in companion animal health; and

• any other matters the selection committee sees fit.

Please complete all sections of the application form including signatures and ensure that the following supporting documentation is attached:

 cover letter outlining your reason for applying for this scholarship and addressing the scholarship selection criteria

 academic curriculum vitae

 certified transcripts of academic records and degree certificates for all previous tertiary studies, complete and incomplete, unless that study took place at UQ or you have attached these documents to a previous UQ MPhil/PhD application

Nominate two referees who are familiar with your recent research and/or academic work. A referee can be from education or employment. It is your responsibility to forward the Referee’s

Report form to your nominated referees

A letter of support from your proposed Principal Advisor and an outline of your proposed research project.

by 5:00pm Friday 15 January

2016. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

The Selection Committee may decide to interview short-listed applicants, and their determination will be considered final; no further communication will be entered into. All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.
