Next Generation Chica Fellow Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring Chica Project About AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. The Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring is an AmeriCorps Program where members serve in mentoring programs across Massachusetts. Organizational Description: Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) is fueling the movement to expand empowering youth-adult relationships to meet the needs of communities across Massachusetts. We work with mentoring programs and youth development organizations to assess programmatic needs and organizational capacity to provide customized strategies that strengthen youth, families, and communities. Mass Mentoring Partnership’s AmeriCorps program, the Highland Street Corps Ambassadors of Mentoring, is currently recruiting 25 Ambassadors for the 2015-2016 program year, which begins on August 3, 2015 and runs through June 30, 2016. AmeriCorps Ambassadors complete one year of service at a host organization in Massachusetts. One Ambassador is placed at Chica Project’s Next Generation Chica Program. Host Site Description: Chica Project was founded in 2011 as a leadership development and mentoring organization for Latina women and girls throughout Massachusetts. Chica Project’s mission is to close the opportunity divide for Latinas by empowering them with the skills, confidence, and network necessary to thrive personally and professionally. It is the only traveling organization in Massachusetts by Latinas for Latinas. Our participating cities are: Boston, Lawrence, Lynn, Springfield and Holyoke. As a fast-growing organization it looks for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who is excited to create an organization during its startup phase and is capable of working in a rapid environment. Host Site Project Description: The fellow’s project will advance the organization’s mission by creating pipelines of intergenerational Latina mentors by creating the systems to sustain it. This would include everything from recruiting, managing, matching, and training mentors to reporting and evaluating the success of the program. In addition, the fellow will help manage our flagship program, Next Generation Chica where they will be supporting program managers, interns, volunteers and mentors. Our long-term desired outcomes for our youth include: social support, increased self-esteem, and self-assertive efficacy and leadership skills.
