Medical Examiner's Investigator - Hennepin County (Minneapolis, MN)
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office provides death investigative and forensic autopsy
services to Hennepin, Dakota, and Scott counties, as well as additional Minnesota and Wisconsin
counties on a referral basis. Our goal is to assist families, law enforcement agencies, and the legal
system by determining a scientifically unbiased and logical cause and manner of death. We serve a
population of over 1.5 million residents covering about 1500 square miles. The Office is a National
Association of Medical Examiners accredited agency with a staff of board certified forensic pathologists
and an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited forensic pathology fellowship
program.
Medical Examiner's Investigators conduct investigative activities for medicolegal death investigators,
prepare comprehensive investigative reports in a computerized case management system for
presentation to staff physicians, including active participation in case review process, preliminary
determinations of cause and manner of death, and guide death investigation (including scene reenactments if needed). There are current vacancies for in-house investigators, which are required to
work 8-12 hour shifts that will vary seven days a week and on-call investigators which are required to be
on-call for 12 or 24 hour shifts that will vary seven days a week.
Best Qualified Candidates will have:

One of the following:
o Bachelor's degree or higher in anatomy, biology, chemistry, nursing, physiology, and/or other
related.
o Twenty or more quarter credits (OR fourteen or more semester credits) of college course work
in anatomy, biology, chemistry, physiology,
and/or a closely related field.
o One year or more of work experience in: a) handling bodies in a morgue, mortuary, and/or
similar setting; or b) in a health care setting
using medical terminology; or c) information gathering, analysis, and report writing.

A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and no more than two moving violations
within the last three years of licensure.

Diplomate level certification as a Mediocolegal Death Investigator by the American Board of
Medicolegal Death Investigators or ability to attain
this certification within six months of employment.
