Prepare your application: As part of your application, please submit typed essay responses addressing each of the following: Why do you want to be a Peer Instructor? Describe one event/moment since arriving at RU that has changed you. How has it impacted you? What skills do you currently have that make you a qualified candidate? What skills do you want to gain from this experience? 3. Peer Instructor Recommendation Forms: You are responsible for asking two people to fill out recommendation forms on your behalf. These individuals should be able to speak to your skills and qualities. They can include RU student leaders, RU faculty/staff members, high school teachers, coaches, supervisors, etc. Family members should not complete recommendation forms. 4. Interview: Once you have submitted your completed application and essay responses to the Office of New Student Programs (Walker 118), you will sign up for an interview time. Interviews will take place between Monday, February 9th through Friday, February 20th in NSP (Walker 118). 5. Position Notification: All applicants will be notified of their status on Friday, February 27th. You will receive an e-mail instructing you to come to NSP to pick up your letter. If selected for the position, the Peer Instructor (PI) candidate will be responsible for the following requirements. These include but are not limited to: Co-teach a UNIV 100 class for fifty minutes: o Twice a week for the first seven weeks o Once a week for the last seven weeks Prepare and implement class lessons on topics important to new student transition Meet weekly with your Faculty Instructor (FI) Assist with the development of a course syllabus Plan out of class learning and community development opportunities for students in your class Meet weekly with the New Student Programs staff: Every Wednesday 4:00-5:00pm Serve as a mentor and role model for academic and personal success Refer students to appropriate resources when made aware of a concern Time Commitment During the Spring 2015 semester you will be required to attend: PI spring training: Thursday, March 19th: 6-8pm and Thursday, March 26th: 6-8pm FI/PI spring training: Week of April 6th.
