Art Fundamentals: Acrylic Painting Wednesdays, March 4 through April 8 1 to 4:30 p.m. | Members $170, Non-Members $190, Active Docents $85 Instructor Allison Watson introduces painting to beginning students and strengthens the skills of intermediate painters. Artful Perspectives on the St. Johns River: Discussion with St. Johns Riverkeeper and Jacksonville Historical Society Tuesday, March 10 6:30 p.m. | Free Reservations Required The Museum will host a lecture honoring the past, present, and future of the St. Johns River. First, Emily Lisska, of the Jacksonville Historical Society, will speak on the River’s history and the importance it played in the development of Jacksonville. Then, St. Johns Riverkeeper Lisa Rinaman will discuss the current state of the river and how citizens can help to preserve its splendor for generations to come. Talks and Tea: The Cummer Gardens Wednesday, March 18 or Thursday, March 19 1:30 p.m. | Free Registration Required During this month’s seated talk, Chief Curator Holly Keris and Director of the Jacksonville Historical Society, Emily Lisska, will discuss the Cummer Museum’s rich history and role as a landmark in Historic Riverside/Avondale. Special stories from Mrs. Cummer’s journals will be shared about her hopes for the property, followed by a discussion of how these dreams have been made realities in the present day. Plein Air Watercolor Workshop Saturday, March 21 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Ages 16 and up Members $150, Non-Members $170 Registration Required Robert Leedy will guide students through a plein air watercolor session in the Cummer Gardens. Painting with light and color will be the theme as students learn how to compose, edit, and simplify the subject matter, work with values, control washes, develop brushwork, retain the white of the paper, and allow colors to mingle. This workshop is open to beginning and intermediate students’, previous watercolor experience is not required, and personal attention is stressed during the session.
