per cup = 3008 oz divided by 16 oz = 188 lbs of flour or 19 – 10 lb bags of flour).
½ cup salt (1/2 cup per group, 4 cups per section; 47 sections x 4 cups = 188 cups x 8 oz
per cup = 1504 oz divided by 16 oz = 94 lbs of salt or 10 – 10 lb bags of salt).
3 tablespoons vegetable oil ( 3 tablespoons per group, 24 tablespoons per section, 24
tablespoons x 15 ml = 360 ml; 47 sections x 360 ml = 16,920 ml = 17 liters of vegetable
oil).
2 tablespoons cream of tartar ( 2 tablespoons per group, 16 per section; 16 tablespoons

Iodine/ potassium iodide solution (Dissolve 15 g of potassium iodide in 125 ml of waer;
add 3 g of iodine; stir to dissolve, then dilute to 1 Liter. Store in labeled dark bottle. Has
significant shelf life.) Use small dropping bottles/droppers for each group. (1 per group,
8 per section; total depends on how many are doing the lab at one time).
Zinc (small piece) (1 per group, 8 per section; total depends on how many are doing the

0.1 M HCl (1 ml of concentrated HCl added to 119 ml of water. Use small dropping

Phenolphthalein (Dissolve 1 g of phenolphthalein in 50 ml of 95% ethanol, then dilute to
