English IV Agenda: Week of June 1 through 5
Monday, 6/1 You should have a draft of your paper ready for revising, and these revisions
need to take place before you workshop your draft with a partner. After this, you are to
complete your second draft, due to me on Monday, May 18.
Do Now #1: New set—handout. Review the definition of “run on sentence” on handout.
Study the model. Complete the corrections of run on sentences one through five.
Work Period: Continue work on research papers. Select a laptop from the cart and note the
number, as you should use the same computer every day. Study these handouts and try to
incorporate some of the rhetorical techniques and devices into your writing:
“Examples of Rhetorical Devices”
“Principles of Rhetoric”
As soon as your first draft is complete, you will need to revise it.
Review sections 17—77 in Writer’s Inc. on how to revise your paper. Use the guidelines as you
work with your first draft (hard copy, as I will want to see your revisions).
Finally, after your first set of revisions, you will need a partner to workshop your paper with you.
For your workshop, use both rubrics supplied, as one focuses more closely on content, especially
the thesis.
A completed paper is five to seven pages in length, has all in-text citations in the proper format,
and has a complete (alphabetized) works cited page. This page does not count as a fifth page for
purposes of length.
Wrap-Up: What questions do you have at this point? What issues are you running into?
Tuesday, 6/2
Do Now #2: Review the definition of “run on sentence” on handout. Study the model.
Complete the corrections of run on sentences six through nine.
Work Period: See above.
Wednesday, 6/3
Do Now #3: Review the rules for the use of the indefinite articles “a” and “an” on handout.
Follow the directions for the activity.
Work Period: See above.
Thursday, 6/4
Do Now #4: Due tomorrow upon completion of response. Exchange yesterday’s worksheet
with a partner. PUT YOUR NAME AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR PARTNER’S PAPER.
(If you were absent yesterday, you need to do the worksheet today. Your make-up for today will
be to write ten sentences with the articles “a” and “an” occurring at least twice in each. You
must use the articles correctly.) Use the key to make any necessary corrections. Return each
other’s papers and look to see where you made any mistakes. Do you have any questions?
Work Period: See above.
Friday, 6/5
Do Now #5: Due upon completion of response. Read page one of the capitalization packet
“Beginnings.” Be sure you understand the rules and examples. Rewrite each of the four
sentences found at the bottom of the page making the necessary corrections. Add a fifth
sentence of your own illustrating the SECOND rule.
Work Period: See above.
Wrap-Up: Your paper is due Monday. What final questions and issues do you have?
