Post Title: Director of Curriculum & Achievement Y8 – Y13 (Secondary)
Job Description
Purpose:
To provide the strategic overview, leadership and development of high quality curriculum provision associated
with ensuring that all learners are challenged to achieve their potential at Appleton Academy.
Safeguarding

To uphold the Academy’s Policies in respect of Safeguarding and Child Protection, and ensure the safety
and well being of all learners
Line Management


Meet regularly with the Strategic Leadership Team to ensure clarity of understanding of a range of issues
Work with the Director of Teaching and Learning (Primary) to ensure continuity of vision and practice

Ensure all learners achieve to their full potential
Support the development of outstanding teaching and learning
Provide strategic direction and development of the secondary curriculum
Lead and manage staff effectively
Specific responsibilities
Strategic direction and development
The Director of Curriculum & Achievement will:
 Develop and communicate a clear strategic vision of all through education
 Represent the curriculum and achievement agenda at senior leadership level and provide relevant advice
on the strategic development of these areas to the strategic leadership team and governing body
 Provide quality assurance by monitoring progress in meeting targets for areas of responsibility
 Contribute to the development and review of all strategic plans and policies within the Academy
Teaching and Learning
The Director of Curriculum & Achievement will:
 Organise and lead the quality assurance, monitoring and support of the curriculum
 Review, develop and implement the secondary curriculum
 Ensure that progress of learners is effectively monitored
 Implement measures aimed at enhancing learner performance
 Ensure opportunities to further develop teaching skills, strategies and the use of new technologies are
embraced

Leading and Managing Staff
The Director of Curriculum & Achievement will
 Line manage the curriculum cluster leaders, subject leaders and specialist teachers
 Meet relevant staff to review progress of learners
 Ensure a rigorous quality assurance cycle provides evidence to improve the quality of teaching and
learning and support self evaluation
 Work with individual teachers to develop, and monitor, plans to improve quality of teaching where
required
 Manage the performance of staff in line with the Academy’s Performance Management Policy
External Links
The Director of Curriculum & Achievement will:
 Contribute to the creation of an effective family of schools sponsored by Bradford College
 Work with the SLT to promote the Academy’s engagement with the wider community
 Develop effective involvement of learners, parents and outside agencies in reviewing the progress of
learners
CPD
Maximise opportunities for personal development by:
 Participating in INSET opportunities, both as a participant and leader of in house INSET sessions as
required
 Participating in annual self reflection and Performance Management procedures, identifying and
requesting INSET opportunities as necessary
 Participating in collaborative work and the sharing of best practice
General
All Academy staff are expected to:
 Work towards and support the Academy’s vision and the objectives
 Support and contribute to the Academy’s responsibility for safeguarding students
 Work within the Academy’s health and safety policy to ensure a safe working environment for staff,
students and visitors
 Work within the Academy’s Community Cohesion and Race Relations Policies to promote equality of
opportunity for all students and staff, both current and prospective
 Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and positive,
courteous relations with students, parents and colleagues
 Engage actively in the performance review process
 Adhere to Academy policies and procedures as set out in the staff handbook or other documentation
available to all staff
