All assignments must be completed in PENCIL and students are REQUIRED to SHOW ALL THEIR WORK. I believe each student has a right to learn, the teacher has a right to teach, and the classroom will be a safe environment, both physically and emotionally. Technology: Technology is allowed in the classroom, as it is expected that we are 21st century students. However, normal respect and classroom expectations apply. Headphones are required when used, no ringer volume, only used when approved by Mr. Fitz, and only used for classroom educational purposes or specifically approved use by Mr. Fitz. Tech is not allowed for quizzes and tests. Homework: Homework is an integral part of this course. Homework is the minimum amount of practice necessary to master the topics. I encourage students to practice extra problems on topics they are having difficulty with. To have a successful year, homework needs to be completed the night assigned. It is the student’s responsibility to complete any homework missed when absent and to turn it in upon their return. Parents will be notified, via progress reports and parent porthole access, if incomplete or poor quality homework is a recurring problem, via grades. Students will be required to access the internet for Textbook, website, Khan Academy, and other assignments as assigned. Class Work: Class work may be assigned either as individual work or as group work. If a student is absent it is the student’s responsibility to complete any missed class work and to copy missing notes. ALL LESSONS AND TASKS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE @ https://sites.google.com/a/uusd.net/mr-fitz-algebra-1/ Make-up Requirements: If an absence is un-excused, the student will be given an opportunity to make up any missed work, including tests. If the absence is excused, the student will have as many days to complete all make-up work as the student was absent, unless special arrangements are made before the work is due. All quizzes and tests are to be made-up the next class period in which the student is at school. Quizzes and Tests: There will be both announced and unannounced quizzes in this course. All chapter tests, cumulative tests, and comprehensive tests will be announced. Test Re-Takes: At times, Students may receive a poor score on a test. Students who would like to retake a test must meet the following requirements: a) All Unit assignments (example: classwork, homework, and projects) must have been completed and submitted prior to the first sitting. b) Student must attend an after school session to receive assistance on the subject. c) Higher Grade must/will be used Mr. Fitz Algebra 1 2015-2016 d) Only one re-test opportunity will be provided each unit. e) Re-takes must be completed prior to the next unit assessment. Extra Help: After school help is available on days specifically noted by Mr. Fitz, but at least two days per week. Tardiness, Discipline, and Detentions: Should a discipline need occur, consequences will ordinarily fall on an escalating continuum (such as verbal cues, lunch or after-school detention, parent phone call, counselor/team intervention, and disciplinary referral). Some behaviors will result directly in a disciplinary referral. District Policy will be followed. Grading Policy: It is my policy to grade student work. Quarter grades and final grades will be obtained on a weighted average scale. Grades will be determined by students’ performance on Formative assessments 30% which include homework, class work, projects, computer and writing assignments and Summative assessments 70% which will include quizzes and tests.
