WMAAPP COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT
Western Massachusetts and Albany Association for Psychoanalytic
Psychology
Local Chapter, Division of Psychoanalysis (39) American Psychological
Association
Joan Burkhard, M.Ed., M.S.W., President - 413.298.4773
On Reading Sigmund Freud’s “The Interpretation of
Dreams”
Taught by Paul Lippmann, Ph.D.
The course will meet on five consecutive Monday evenings:
November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 2015
7:00 – 8:30 pm 2 Cherry Street, Stockbridge, MA.
Description:
In five weekly meetings, this course will aim at a close reading
together of The Interpretation of Dreams, the central and
foundational text of psychoanalysis. While the purpose of the
course is the reading and discussion of the text, there will be
consideration of the history and context of the writing (especially in
the Freud-Fleiss correspondence), as well as consideration of
related concepts from the literature of psychoanalysis and from the
extensive literature on dreams.
There will also be an opportunity for discussion of clinical issues
brought both from the participants and the instructor. What is the
relevance of this basic text to our contemporary work as
psychotherapists? But the main goal is simply reading together this
great work of scientific art, this deeply personal biographic writing,
this opening to the 20th Century of the mystery of dreams. Lastly,
Dr. Lippmann looks forward to some fun and pleasure within our
small psychoanalytic community in reading this foundational work
together.
