Chairman: SPR Master og Bachelor, Ingvild Bjerke.
Topic 2
Short introduction to the student council at DMF
Each class at DMF has a KTR (Class Trust Representative). The KTR’s role is
to convey class opinions and concerns, as well as to work on issues that
concern the the student mass. Each KTR attend board meetings with the
decision makers of the specific program.
The bachelor and master programs have one SPR (Student Program
Representative). The role of the SPR is to arrange meetings with the KTRs,
attend meetings with SL (Executive Group), follow up on issues brought up by
the KTRs and arrange the general meetings (one per semester).
If students have questions, concerns or opinions, these should be brought to
the KTR. It will then be discussed in the student council for Master and B
Bachelor, after which it may be brought by the SPR to SL.

Recent and ongoing work by the student council
Graduation ceremony for master students: Last spring, the study section (in
collaboration with the KTRs) was able to arrange the first graduation
ceremony for. This was the result of students’ want for a formal celebration at
the end of their studies. The ceremony was a success and will be repeated in
2016 if enough students sign up. Student opinions will be gathered and
improvements will be made.
Supervision process: Prior students have raised confusion about their rights
for supervision. Last year, the KTRs gathered student opinions, including what
students wanted to know before choosing a project, and what they wanted to
get out of the supervisor meetings. A discussion was brought to the institutes
and the faculty. Following this, the study section has been working on an
Minutes of meeting
information brochure to the supervisors. This will be followed up closely. Any
suggestions on how to make the supervisors’ roles clear (both to students and
to the supervisors) are welcome.
Student welfare: Students have expressed that they haven’t felt the “DMF
student experience”. The last year’s KTRs made a survey about this. The
survey will be sent out to students in October.
Structural revision of the master programs: The faculty has discussed
merging some of the smaller master programs, e.g. molecular medicine and
neuroscience. The purpose is to improve the programs, save money and
comply with political encouragements. The student council has discussed the
issue with particular focus on how it would affect student opportunities – both
during and after their studies. The student council will follow up to make sure
that student concerns are being addressed by the faculty if any changes are
proposed.
Job opportunities: Both prior and present students have expressed the want
to know more about job opportunities. Last year’s KTRs gathered a list with
companies that the students wanted to get in touch with. This year, the student
council will try to arrange a company presentation, as well to establish contact
with VIVO, the organization that arranges the career days at Gløshaugen.
