NGSA LOGO CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES This document describes the official rules of the NGSA Logo Contest organized by the Nursing Graduate Student Society (NGSA) at McGill University. The objective of this contest is to design a logo for the NGSA, which will be displayed on the website, Facebook Group, on posters, banners, official letterhead, etc. Information on how to enter the contest and on the prize is included in these Official Rules. To the extent of any inconsistency, these Official Rules prevail. Eligibility 1. The Contest is open only to individuals. The Contest is not open to companies, educational institutions, organizations, etc. or to groups associated with such institutions. 2. Participants must be students enrolled at McGill University or Concordia University for the duration of this Contest. How to Enter 1. Entries must be submitted by email to ngsa.pgss@mail.mcgill.ca with “Logo Contest – Your Name” as subject line. The entries must be submitted as a scalable vector graphic in EPS format, and also as a JPG. See the Submission Guidelines below for further information. 2. The application must include the name, email address, phone number and program of study of the participant. 3. Participants are required to submit their candidacy using their official educational email provided by their institution (McGill/Concordia email). 4. Only 1 entry may be submitted by any participant. 5. The entry must conform to the Submission Guidelines set out below. Entries which fail to do so will be rejected. 6. The deadline for entry is midnight (one minute after 23:59) on February 15th, 2013, Eastern Standard Time. 7. We will attempt to acknowledge all entries within one week of receipt. 8. There is no fee to enter the Contest. Submission Guidelines The purpose of the contest is to design a logo for the NGSA, which is currently without any logo. The logo will be used online, in print, on merchandise, and in any other way that the NGSA sees fit. Flexibility is the key requirement, including the need to resize easily and to look good in black and white as well as in colour. The final version of the logo will need to be suitable for high quality printing. The logo must contain the words “Nursing Graduate Student Association” and/or the “NGSA” acronym. This image should not be photographic (see below for information on graphic formats). Preferably, the logo should be related to nursing, nursing education, or healthcare. The logo should uphold a consistent, easily recognizable, visual identity. In terms of consistency, many nursing organizations and other healthcare institutions use red as their primary colour. McGill’s official colour is also red. For printed work, the official McGill colour is Pantone Matching System (PMS) 485 red (or CMYK: 100% magenta, 90% yellow). You may use these guidelines as a reference but you do not need to create a red logo. Feel free to be creative. The applicant must also submit a “banner” version of the logo. The “banner” version must be 980X350 pixels, and include the official logo at the left side of the banner. The banner needs to include the words “Nursing Graduate Student Association” as the title, and the words “Ingram School of Nursing, McGill University” as a sub-header. Due to the requirements for high quality printing and re-sizing, entries must be submitted in a scalable vector graphic format (EPS). We advise against the use of halftones and gradients unless created inside a vector graphics program. Colour in this version must be CMYK, no spot colours. In order to accommodate the requirements of the NGSA website and avoid the need for conversion, submissions must also include the following two variants of the logo: (a) JPGs 1000 pixels square, and (b) 980X350-pixel “banner.” To allow the NGSA to use the logo in print versions of official documents (e.g. bylaws, agendas, minutes, official statements), the applicant must also submit black and white versions of the basic logo in both EPS and JPG format, with the same requirements as outlined above for the colour versions. The limit on attachment size for our email is 25Mb. If your submission exceeds this size, even after compression, please send the images individually and note clearly in your emails that you are doing so. To recap, each entry will consist of six (6) files: the basic logo in colour, the basic logo in black and white, and the “banner” variant, each in EPS and JPG formats. Prize The winning design will be announced in January 2013 via the NGSA mailing list, website, and Facebook group. The winner will be informed in person by email, as soon as the decision is made. The winning designer will receive a $100 cash prize. The winner will keep the right to use the basic logo for personal use (e.g. portfolio) and identify him/herself as the logo designer. Judging and Selection of Winner 1. The winning design will be selected by the NGSA Executives, upon recommendation from the whole NGSA Council. Their decision will be final. No further correspondence shall be entered into. 2. The NGSA reserves the right not to select a winner if, in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received. 3. The NGSA reserves the right to disqualify any application at its sole discretion. No correspondence shall be entered into. 4. The winner will be required to sign a contract assigning all ownership of the logo to the NGSA. 5. Accepting the prize constitutes permission for the NGSA to make public and otherwise use winner’s name, and program of study for publicity purposes. Further personal data may be requested but is not required. Intellectual Property 1. All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing design. 2. All Entries will become the sole property of the NGSA and may be displayed publicly on websites and other printed publications. 3. The winning entry will be registered as NGSA property and the applicant agrees to transfer all rights and title to the NGSA in accordance with the Official Rules of this Contest. Acceptance Participation constitutes the Entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. By participating in the Contest, the Entrant is representing and warranting that he/she has read and understood, and agrees to be bound by, these rules. Including the guides and rules referred to herein, these Official Rules constitute the entire agreement between the Entrant and the NGSA in relation to the Contest. They govern the Entrant’s participation and supersede any prior or other agreements between the Entrant and the NGSA and relating to the Contest.
