Dear Debate Coach,
On behalf of the University of Western Ontario Debate Society we would like to invite
you and your team to participate in our annual debate tournament. The tournament this year will
take place from Friday October 31st to Saturday November 1st, 2014. Registration for the
tournament is starting earlier than in previous years and will open at 4:00pm and close at
5:00pm. A full tournament schedule has been included on the next page. This tournament will
be in the style of Canadian Parliamentary debate, and the first two rounds will debate the set
motion, “This house only supports the self-determination of states in cases where a minority
is severely and indefinitely oppressed, such as in the case of genocide or other forms of
extreme cultural/racial persecution. (i.e. Not Quebec or Scotland)”. Note: your teams must
be prepared to debate this motion from both Side Government and Side Opposition. The General
Assembly room will be in the 3M building in room 3250. The registration fee is $120 per team
which covers 5 guaranteed rounds of debate, and the subsequent quarter, semi and final rounds
for those that qualify. This fee also includes dinner on Friday night, as well as breakfast and
lunch on Saturday. All levels of experience are welcome to this tournament with the current cap
at four teams per school. IMPORTANT: the confirmation date and thus the $60 per team
deposit submission date have been extended to October 10th. We are excited to hear from you
