The plan may be adapted to specific technical subject areas and modified for your own institution’s requirements. It is important that all areas required in the template are completed and that the lesson plan be sufficiently clear and detailed so that another facilitator could use the plan to teach the workplace simulation. Work Readiness Skill(s) Addressed: Specify the work readiness skill(s) addressed in the simulation. Which skills will learners need to use to solve the problem? Technical Skill(s) Addressed: Specify the technical skill(s) addressed in the simulation. Which skills will learners practice or gain exposure to in this simulation? Learning Outcomes: Describe what learners should be able to do in each workplace simulation. Your lesson should state one or more learning outcomes, on which the objectives of this specific lesson are based. Instructional Approach(s): What are the specific methodologies (e.g. role plays, small group work, group problem-solving, etc.) that will be used to promote participatory and active problem-based learning. Industry Involvement: Describe how employers can get involved in the simulation. What would their role be? Workplace Problem: Write a narrative description of the workplace problem that was adapted from your business partner that aligns with the technical competency identified. Highlight 1 – 2 work readiness skills that are contributing to the workplace problem. Materials and Resources: List all materials and resources that you and your learners will need. What things do you need to do before the lesson begins? (e.g. prepare a flip chart.) What things do the learners need to do? (e.g. complete an online course.) Simulation Activity Introduction: Introduce the topic. Provide an overview. Introduce the work readiness skill, the technical skill and any specific technology required. Introduce the workplace problem and the goal of the activity: Review the workplace problem with the learners. What do they need to do? What do they need to deliver to complete the activity? Form the teams: How do learners form teams? What roles do they play? Execute the simulation: What sequence of activities will the learner experience? What will they do? How much time will each step take? In developing the steps of the participatory and active lesson activities, be sure to consider technology tools that can be used. Debrief: How will you close the simulation? The closing should be linked to attaining your learning objectives.
