CHV2O Assignment #2: Citizen Profile _____________________________________________________________________________________ Approaching the end of the Civics course, students are encouraged to pull together the various learning, skills, and attitudes which serve as the basis of Informed, Active and Purposeful Citizenship in Canada. Students have been exposed to the values which form the foundations for Democracy. Students have also learned the structures and processes – as well as the spirit and intent—of the Canadian Parliamentary System. A significant portion of class time has been devoted to a rich discussion of current events – the every-day world of complex situations which require us to consider the values at the core of our civic relationships. Discussion has also extended into an examination of Global Citizenship – the broader understanding that the world extends beyond our individual horizons, and that actions taken in one part of the world are inextricably linked to effects on the lives of others in another part of –the same—world. Students should be making connections within and integrating all these elements of Civics. To reflect the student’s appreciation and understanding for the concepts in Citizenship, students are to complete a “Citizen Profile” of an individual who demonstrates strong civic tendencies. This Citizen Profile may take several different forms. Students should choose a format and approach best suited to their individual skill, and which most effectively communicates the citizenship tendencies under discussion. For example, students may choose to develop a Citizen Profile by writing a newspaper article, creating a short video presentation, writing a blog, drafting a poster, or developing a formal written response. It is advised students discuss their ideas, approach, and methodology with the teacher to ensure suitability and efficiency.
