The members are represented by a Board of Directors which is legally responsible for administering the corporation in accordance with the CATSI Act and establishing broad policies and objectives for the corporation. The Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) is responsible for implementing the policies and objectives established by the Board of Directors and managing the day-to-day activities of the corporation. The LNAC is the peak advocacy and support agency for the Larrakia people, the traditional landowners of the Greater Darwin area. Initially established in 1998 to represent the Native Title interests of the Larrakia people, the LNAC has since evolved into a vital service delivery organisation focussed on addressing the social, cultural and economic aspirations of the Larrakia people by initiating and administering programs, projects and services for the broader Aboriginal community. The members of LNAC are those Aboriginal persons who, under traditional law and custom, hold rights and interests to the traditional country (Darwin Harbour, Cox Peninsula, most of Gunn Point and much of rural Darwin). LNAC is a not-for-profit organisation and receives the majority of its capital and operating expenses from the Northern Territory Government, Commonwealth Government and by entering into business partnerships with the private sector. Approved .....................James PILKINGTON, Acting Chief Executive Officer Date: Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation POSITION DESCRIPTION Page 2 of 3 PROGRAM DETAILS: The Cultural Knowledge Unit utilises a social enterprise approach in order to support the maintenance and development of Larrakia and other Aboriginal people’s cultural knowledges, and at the same time enable community members to sustain livelihoods based on this cultural knowledge. Cultural Knowledge includes art, dance, music, traditional knowledge and Aboriginal knowledge more generally. The Cultural Knowledge Unit incorporates the art centre, events and experiences, community consultation and research. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: Manage the cultural knowledge unit to support the maintenance and development of Larrakia and other Aboriginal people’s cultural knowledge and at the same time enable community members to sustain livelihoods based on this cultural knowledge. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative and project support for Cultural Knowledge Unit projects as requested. This position also requires the Cultural Enterprises Assistant to develop and maintain effective partnerships with other Larrakia Nation program areas to ensure successful delivery of administration and all services. Key responsibilities will include: Initial management of incoming queries. Database administration and management Providing support such as; assisting on the delivery of internal and external events including logistics, document filing and assisting the administration areas on request after manager approval. General office maintenance including managing freight, purchasing stationary, kitchen supplies and additional arts centre supplies Communications with contractors (artists, performers, presenters, etc.), clients and suppliers, as required Organising contractor payment forms as required Organising transport for contractors as needed (may include transporting contractors using work vehicle) SELECTION CRITERIA: Essential: Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact with a wide cross-section of people (particularly Aboriginal).
