important safety policies of our college and where to
find information, as well as how to sign up for
eCampus Alerts. This section allows new faculty to
meet our Safety Officer and sign required forms)

(This section allows faculty to meet our Ass. Dean for
Institutional Effectiveness and learn about the current
Strategic Plan for our college. New Faculty will
understand initiatives and departmental goals better
for knowing the institutional goals.)

(By this time new faulty have had an opportunity to
attend Blackboard Basics provided by Academic
Technologies (August 10th) and have reviewed the
Blackboard module in the New Faculty Online
Orientation. Faculty will have course materials on their
course site. This session will allow faculty to gain
understanding on more in-depth, targeted areas of
course management through Blackboard. (Grading,
Creating Tests/Assignments, Adaptive Release, adding
media, etc))
Shari Whicker, EdD, Associate Director for Continuing
Professional Development, Carilion Clinic
(An overview of course design will have been reviewed
in the New Faculty Online Orientation by this meeting.
Dr. Whicker will present a session on course
alignment. Demonstrating to faculty how being
mindful about the appropriateness of objectives,
assessment and delivery of lessons within a course can
increase the learning experience for students)

(With a semester under their belts, now is a good time
to show faculty where to document all the
professional development they have attended, as well
as scholarly work. Faculty will also need to start
preparing for their first performance evaluation.
Session also includes a review of Cornerstone and a
reminder of the required Annual Inservices that will be
assigned when they return for Spring.)
