This section will allow faculty to review the structure and meet the current Chair of Faculty Senate) Campus Safety Noon-12:30 Susan Booth, Physical Plant and Safety Officer (New Faculty Online Orientation has covered the important safety policies of our college and where to find information, as well as how to sign up for eCampus Alerts. This section allows new faculty to meet our Safety Officer and sign required forms) Institutional Goals 12:30-1:00p Glen Mayhew, D.H.Sc., Associate Dean for Institutional Effectiveness (This section allows faculty to meet our Ass. Dean for Institutional Effectiveness and learn about the current Strategic Plan for our college. New Faculty will understand initiatives and departmental goals better for knowing the institutional goals.) Meet and Greet 1:00p-1:30p Scott Hill, Dean for Student Services Al Overstreet, Director of Academic Support Services (This will allow new faculty to meet the Directors for Student Affairs and Academic Support Services prior to the semester starting, so if needed as classes begin, they know where and to whom to go.) Meeting Two September 18, 2015 1-2:30p Rm 505 Self-Service 1p-1:30p Kimberly Whiter, Director of Faculty Development (A Self-Service Module is covered in New Faculty Online Orientation, this section will provide a quick review and demonstration of taking attendance, posting grades, and printing class rosters) “Beyond the Basics” Blackboard 1:30-2:30p Meeting Three October 16, 2015 11a-1p Rm 501 Course Design, Delivery, and Evaluation Meeting Four November 13, 2015 11a-1:30p Rm 501 Library Resources 11a-Noon David Halpin, Academic Technologist (By this time new faulty have had an opportunity to attend Blackboard Basics provided by Academic Technologies (August 10th) and have reviewed the Blackboard module in the New Faculty Online Orientation. Faculty will have course materials on their course site. This session will allow faculty to gain understanding on more in-depth, targeted areas of course management through Blackboard. (Grading, Creating Tests/Assignments, Adaptive Release, adding media, etc)) Shari Whicker, EdD, Associate Director for Continuing Professional Development, Carilion Clinic (An overview of course design will have been reviewed in the New Faculty Online Orientation by this meeting. Dr. Whicker will present a session on course alignment. Demonstrating to faculty how being mindful about the appropriateness of objectives, assessment and delivery of lessons within a course can increase the learning experience for students) Ramona Thiss, Director of Carilion Clinic Health Sciences Libraries Courtney Miller, Online Learning Librarian Jamie Price, Clinical Research Librarian Mary Catherine Santoro, Outreach and Instruction Librarian (New Faculty Online Orientation covers resources offered by our library, this will allow faculty to ask pointed questions to our librarians and demonstrate how the library can help in developing resources for their future courses.) Student Services Noon-1p Scott Hill, Dean for Student Services Al Overstreet, Director of Academic Support Services Jennifer Slusher, Director of Counseling and Wellness (As the semester is starting to wrap up, this timely session to allow faculty to ask questions about any issues they have faced throughout their courses) Activity Insight Cornerstone 1-1:30p Kimberly Whiter, Director of Faculty Development (With a semester under their belts, now is a good time to show faculty where to document all the professional development they have attended, as well as scholarly work. Faculty will also need to start preparing for their first performance evaluation. Session also includes a review of Cornerstone and a reminder of the required Annual Inservices that will be assigned when they return for Spring.)
