Dates to Get Assistance
Jan. 14 – Financial Aid Night!! 6-7:30 p.m., Vance Brand Auditorium
Feb. 8 – College Goal Sunday – 2-4 p.m., FRCC - Get help with your
FAFSA
Feb. 12 – FAFSA Help @ SHS, 4-6 p.m., Wired/Library Lab
Ask A Counselor table – in the Commons at lunchtime, when available
Due Dates
 List 1 SVVSD scholarships due FEB. 26 – by 3 p.m.!
o File FAFSA by Feb. 20 for Local Scholarships!
 List 2 SVVSD Scholarships – CHECK DUE DATES
o Some are due FEB. 26 – by 3 p.m.!
o One is due FEB. 15
o Some are due in March, April or May
 Most scholarships offered by community colleges and universities are due
MARCH 1
 FAFSA Priority Deadline is MARCH 1 – file by this date to get the most
and best financial aid
Tips for Scholarship Applications
How do you want to present yourself and make yourself the best candidate?







Read the directions for each scholarship thoroughly
Check that you meet the criteria for the scholarship
Meet all deadlines
Complete all parts of the application, including signatures and dates
Request letters of recommendations early
Essays should:
o Address the requirements of the scholarship
o Be tailored to the scholarship
o Be typed, not hand written
o Be proofed, then edited as necessary
Show your appreciation for your scholarship awards – send a thank you
note to the organization you received the award from

Accountants (NSA), National Education Association (NEA), etc.
Ethnicity-based organizations
o Examples: LULAC, CESDA, Asian Pacific Islander Organization
