RESPONSIBILITY Disaster Responding Organization Cyclone Department of Meteorology (DoM) Responsibility Code Cyclone-MET-RESP Monitoring the genesis of cyclone which form in the Bay of Bengal / Arabian sea / South Indian Ocean. If a cyclone is on the above waters, forecast the track of cyclone and give the relevant information to the marine community and fishermen. If the cyclone affects Sri Lanka, issue bad weather warning and pass these information and warning to DMC, media and relevant agencies. If cyclone is expected to cross the island, inform the President’s Office, Secretary to the Ministry, DMC, media and relevant agencies (Police, Navy, District Secretaries, etc.) with alert warning including the position of cyclone, strength of cyclone, landfall area and time, expected damages and duration of affecting period.
