QUT STUDENT PLACEMENT AGREEMENT
FOR PLACEMENTS WITHIN AUSTRALIA
Thank you for agreeing to accept a Student enrolled in an award course at QUT for the purpose of undertaking a work
placement as part of their Course of study.
The purpose of this document is to set out the obligations of both QUT and your Organisation in relation to the
Placement.
[Note: A reference to Student means one or more students, depending on the context]

ORGANISATION RESPONSIBILITIES
 Your Organisation agrees to:

appoint a Workplace Supervisor who will be
suitably qualified and responsible for the day-today supervision of a Student on Placement;
advise the Student and QUT of the identity and
contact details for the Workplace Supervisor;
use all reasonable endeavours to provide to
Students a variety of opportunities for work and
professional experience consistent with the
objectives of the Placement, and the resources
or equipment reasonably required by the Student
to perform the duties assigned to the
student
during the Placement;
where requested by QUT, maintain attendance
records and/or report all Student absences to
QUT;
where requested by QUT, undertake an
evaluation of the Student, in the form agreed with
QUT.
WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY
 Your Organisation will ensure that the workplace,
and any plant and equipment used by a Student
during a Placement, complies with the workplace
health and safety legislation in force and as
amended from time to time, prior to a Student using
the workplace, or the plant and equipment.
 Your Organisation will also comply with the antidiscrimination legislation in force and as amended
from time to time, including without limitation, in
respect to bullying, harassment and any other form
of discrimination.
Your Organisation must have:

a system for the risk management that includes
the identification of hazards, the assessment and
control of risks (e.g. Hazard inspection, risk
assessments, safety is included in staff
discussions/meetings), including a system for
reporting, recording and investigation of
accidents/incidents;

documented safe work procedures (e.g.
Standard Operating Procedures). Please note,
for small businesses i.e. <5 employees, evidence
of informal safe work procedures is acceptable;
an induction process for the student including
workplace health and safety;
appropriate on the job training and supervision
for a Student;
basic first aid; and
appropriate personal protective equipment for a
Student (where appropriate).
 If a Student reports an incident or near miss or if
there is a safety breach by your Organisation related
to the placement, your Organisation will, where
requested by QUT, provide a copy of any report,
recording or investigation and advise QUT of the
outcome of any incident or investigation.
QUT RESPONSIBILITIES
 Where applicable, QUT will be responsible for the
selection and/or approval of the Students for
participation in the Placement.
 QUT will specify the Placement Coordinator and
liaise with the Workplace Supervisor regarding
details of the Students participating in a Placement
and the learning and other requirements for the
Placement, where applicable.
 QUT will, where required by any applicable law, use
all reasonable endeavours to ensure that a Student
has or obtains any necessary licences, approvals or
registrations necessary for the Placement.
 QUT has certain expectations of its students whilst
they are undertaking work placements and will use
reasonable endeavours to ensure that a Student
acknowledges and complies with QUT Student
Code
of
Conduct
set
out
at
(http://www.mopp.qut.edu.au/E/E_02_01.jsp).
 QUT will notify your Organisation if the Student
ceases to be formally enrolled in the Course.

ISSUES AFFECTING CONTINUATION OF
PLACEMENT
 Should any impediment, problems or concerns
arise, at any stage before or during the Placement
with respect to or concerning the Placement, the
relevant party must notify the other party without
delay so as to attempt in good faith to resolve any
such problems expediently.
 Where your Organisation considers that the conduct
of a Student may warrant disciplinary action against
the student, your Organisation will, as soon as
practicable after such conduct occurs, provide QUT
with details of the Student and the grounds upon
which it considers that disciplinary action may be
taken. Once notified to QUT, the matter is the
responsibility of QUT.
 Your Organisation may exclude a Student from a
Placement if your Organisation considers on
reasonable grounds that the Student’s conduct
during the Placement is inappropriate or that the
Student is not suitable to undertake or to continue
the Placement. Your Organisation will notify QUT
who will advise the Student not to attend your
Organisation for the purposes of Placement.
 QUT may, upon the provision of notice in writing to
your Organisation, withdraw a Student from a
Placement at any time.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
 Except in the event that your Organisation pays a
Student, your organisation acknowledges that any
intellectual property created by a Student during a
Placement remains the property of the Student,
unless otherwise agreed between your Organisation
and the Student in writing prior to the
commencement of the Placement.

your Organisation will be reduced proportionately to
the extent that any loss arises due to any negligent
act or omission of your Organisation, its officer or
employees.
 In no event will QUT be liable to indemnify your
Organisation for any loss of profits, business
revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings or for any
special, incidental or indirect damages or for any
economic consequential damages.
INSURANCE
 QUT will maintain, in relation to students on
Placement, the following insurances covering
Students undertaking an unpaid Placement:
student personal accident insurance;
public liability insurance, in the event that a
Student becomes legally liable for injury to any
person or damage to property caused by the
Student’s negligent act, but excluding loss or
damage which arises due to the use of a motor
vehicle;
- professional indemnity insurance, in the event
that a Student becomes legally liable for breach
of duty owed in a professional capacity;
- medical
malpractice
insurance
(where
applicable); and
- corporate travel insurance once the Student is
more than 50km from their normal place of
residence.
 In the event that your Organisation pays a Student
for the Placement, then your Organisation
acknowledges and agrees that the Student will be
covered by your Organisation’s insurance policies,
including, but not limited to workers’ compensation,
public liability and professional indemnity insurance
policies.
CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION
 A party will not, except as expressly authorised by
the other party or required by law, disclose to any
third party any confidential information provided by
the other party in the course of the Placement.
 Your Organisation acknowledges that it is solely
responsible for ensuring that the Student is aware of
its requirements relating to any of its confidential
information.
INDEMNITY
 QUT indemnifies your Organisation against loss,
liability, damage, costs or expenses (Loss) which
they suffer, sustain or incur as a direct result of any
negligent act or omission by QUT, its officer or
