Committee Size:
Currently 1 member (including chairs); in need of members!
Mission:
To recruit new members; engage current members in chapter
activities; listen to what current members need/want from the
chapter; and coordinate with International on membership drives.
To strengthen our diverse membership base and recruit more
members in the Greater New York area. To date, we have been
incredibly successful at retaining members and recruiting new
members through extensive networking, social, informal, and
formal intellectual, professional, and recreational events..

Activities and Events:




Promote National Membership Drives – i.e .Public Sector
1+1 Membership Recruiting Event
Members Appreciation Event (such as Spring Fling,
Summer Baseball, informal cocktail hours)
Follow up with people whose membership may expire
soon or finding out why people have chosen to allow their
memberships expire. The committee solicits feedback
from members who no longer participate in order to
determine what, if anything, the chapter can do to better
serve the membership.

Transportation YOU Committee

Committee Size:
Currently 14 members (including chairs); Interested in having
new mentors for the 2012 school year, and especially those
interested in helping coordinate the Fall 2012 Newark Aviation
Futures mentoring program .
Mission:
To promote transportation careers with an emphasis on Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for young girls
ages 13-18. Mentoring program exposes girls with predisposed
STEM interests to committee members, who serve as role
models in transportation careers.
Annual Committee
Activities and Events:





Transportation Facility Tours, such as Grand Central
Terminal, Coney Island Maintenance Shop, Transit
Museum, Bridge or Tunnel.
Bring the girls to a WTS Chapter Event to expose them to
prominent women in the transportation industry.
Shadow your mentor day at work.
USDOT Transportation You Summit– one girl and mentor
team to travel to Washington DC and participate in the
USDOT TY Summit March 28-April 1
Aviation Futures workshop at Newark International Airport
which will expose girls to aviation transportation careers

Corporate Partners Committee

Committee Size:
Currently 5 members (including chairs); The Corporate Partners
Committee is in search of a new Chair
The Corporate Partners Committee’s mission is to engage firms
to become Corporate Partners and to provide benefits to the
Corporate Partners, assisting them in taking advantage of the
benefits they receive.
 Once a year we renew existing Corporate Partnerships
and reach out to other firms to encourage joining the
Corporate Partnership program. Corporate Partner year
goes from October 1st – September 30th.
 Reach out to the Corporate Partners before Quarterly
events to remind them of ticket benefits available to them.
 Coordinate with Corporate Partners to have one firm
spotlighted in each Community Buzz and Newsletter.
 Coordinate with Corporate Partners on use of tickets for
the Gala held in October.
 Coordinate with Corporate Partners regarding the ad in
the newsletter and Gala journal as well as their logo on
the Greater New York Webpage.
 Coordinate with other committees to ensure that
Corporate Partners are accurately represented at events
and on the Website.

NJ Programs Committee

Committee Size:
Currently 7 core group members (including chair) and 11 at large
members
Mission:
To develop interesting NJ programs and events which provide
networking and learning opportunities

Organize two technical programs on an emerging industry
with high profile speakers
Provide two NJ based professional development events
(i.e. art of networking, leadership training, and
communication skills) – typically free events to members
Organize one to two NJ networking events (i.e. happy
hours, holiday celebrations)

Young Professionals Committee
Committee Chair

Committee Size:
Currently has 6 members (including chairs). New volunteers are
always welcome to join. We are especially interested in creating
a newsletter, so anyone with experience in creating and
distributing an E-Newsletter is encouraged to contact the chair.
The mission of the WTS-GNY Young Professionals Committee is
to support the professional development of our members by
providing diverse networking and professional development
opportunities. The YP committee is interested in providing events
that our members will benefit from while having a great time!
 Mentor Mixer Event: This event was designed to provide
an informal space for experienced members of the WTSGNY community to interact with young professionals and
provide mentoring advice.
 Transportation Trivia Event: This event held annually for
the last 3 years has provided a fun and informal
atmosphere to meet colleagues in other societies as well
as within WTS-GNY. The YP committee has partnered
with another local society each year to facilitate
networking between groups like APA and YPT.
 Social Event: These types of events are held throughout
the year as a way to keep in touch with the contacts you
have made through the WTS YP committee. Typically
these events are held at a bar.
 Professional Development Events: Invite a speaker to
provide insight on improving your professional
development i.e. Public speaking, networking, etc…this
event has not yet taken place.

Mentoring Committee
Committee Chair(s):

Committee Size:
9 members (including chairs)
Organize and manage the annual WTS-GNY Mentoring Program
(typically 10 mentor/apprentice teams). We plan monthly
mentoring programs, recruit mentors and apprentices, and use
our diversity and creativity to innovate growth experiences and
environments for the Mentoring Program participants.
 First Quarter – admissions process, including
applications workshops and application review.
 March-December – planning and support for monthly
Program meetings.
 Ongoing – development of Mentoring Alumna network, to
keep program alums connected to each other and to the
program.
 Ongoing – plan social events, including annual August
event.
 Committee Meetings – we meet monthly on Mondays.
Next meeting is April 23, contact chairs for more info.

The Recognitions/Nomination Committee has two missions:
 Promote recognition of individuals, organizations, and
projects that has made extraordinary contributions to the
success of the WTS organization and/or transportation
industry and support of the goals and purpose of WTS.
 Coordinate the biennial nomination and selection of
individuals to govern the WTS-GNY Chapter and help
advance and develop women in transportation.

Mission:
To develop educational and professional development NY located
programs that cater to our diverse chapter membership.

Three Quarterly Programs at Club 101, including an annual
M/W/DBE Expo at the January event. Large, sit-down dinners
featuring prominent guest speakers and panelists held in
January, April September
 NY Annual Holiday Party (December)
 2-3 professional development events
 2-3 technical tours
 Provide registration and nametag support for other committees
 Support similar joint events with other professional
organizations such as the American Planning Association
(APA) Transportation Committee.
Recent programs and activities include:

Communications Committee

are looking for a PR coordinator to assist with event publicity and
general chapter visibility.
Mission:
The Communications committee is charged with keeping WTS
members and mailing list subscribers up-to-date with the
chapter’s activities and to publicize our events.

Assemble the chapter’s annual report
Write, edit and publish the Community Buzz, the chapter’s

To plan and host WTS-GNY's Premiere Yearly Networking
Events.
Mission:
Annual Committee
Activities and Events:
The Special Events Committee plans and hosts WTS-GNY's two
biggest networking events of the year, the Spring Fling and the
premiere Winter Gala. The Annual Gala Fundraiser is held at
Bridgewaters in Lower Manhattan and the Spring Fling location
varies - previous locations include The Park Restaurant near the
High Line and Battery Gardens, in Battery Park. We also
periodically host informal meet-ups for casual socializing and
networking at interesting venues around the city.
 Spring Fling: Networking reception with cocktails, hors
d'oevres, live music, raffles, and brief tours highlighting
the event location
 Annual Gala Fundraiser: WTS-GNY's annual event
honoring the Woman of the Year, live music, silent
auction, cocktails and hors d'oevres, networking
 Informal Meet-ups

Scholarship Committee

Committee Size:

Mission:
To assist women pursuing education and professional careers in
transportation by awarding graduate and undergraduate
scholarships to outstanding candidates.
Annual Committee
Activities and Events:
Announce the yearly WTS GNY scholarship awards, review the
submitted applications and choose the winning candidates for
the following scholarships. Local winners may advance to
national competitions.
● Leonard Braun Memorial Graduate Scholarship
● Susan Miszkowicz Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship.
● Molitoris Leadership Scholarship for Undergraduates
● Presidential Legacy Scholarship (national competition
only)
