Glen Oak Park Neighborhood Association
Issue 7, June 25, 2014
Message from the Association
Hi Neighbors! During the month of June and July members of
the community (like me!) are interviewing residents in the East
Bluff for their opinions of our neighborhood and what we can do
to change things for the better. If you would like to participate call
Jeff Campbell at Children’s Home, 687-7504 or email him at
jcampbell@chail.org Of course, you can call me too. I and many
others value what you have to say and the ideas you may have to
make the East Bluff a better place to live, work and play. So Speak
Up!

Peoria Municipal Band Concerts
A sure sign of warmer weather is when the band concerts start again at Glen Oak Park!
The band is celebrating 77 years of great music being played throughout the Peoria
area. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. The Peoria Municipal Band was formed in 1937
through the efforts of Local 26 of the American Federation of Musicians and interested
citizens. Prior to 1937 the band was a professional municipal band complete with
management and "Soloists of National Reputation". Current band members come
from all walks of life; many are currently music teachers in the local schools. They are
selected by audition and then commit to a full season of rehearsals and
performance. Hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed their music since
1937. Today, with the support of the city, the band continues the long-standing
tradition of excellence in music. You can visit their website at
http://peoriamunicipalband.com/programs.htm to see the complete summer
schedule of musical entertainment.
Click It or Ticket Enforcement
From May 9-26, 2014, IDOT supported law enforcement agencies statewide to remind motorists to buckle up both day and
night during the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization. Peoria Police Department joined other
state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois in this annual effort to get more motorists to buckle
up, in the front and back seat - and save more lives.
During the mobilization, The Peoria Police Department issued:
 21 seat belt citations
 11 child safety seat citations
 4 DUI arrests
 2 fugitives apprehended
 3 suspended/revoked licenses
 3 uninsured motorists
 12 speeding citations
The annual Click It or Ticket mobilization may be over in Peoria, but that is no excuse to stop using your seat
belt. “Our officers are out all year long. If you or your passengers, in the front seat or back seat, are caught
not wearing a seat belt, day or night, you will be cited for the safety violation,” said Lt. Steve Roegge.

Peoria Community Against
Violence (PCAV)
PCAV is a new volunteer citizens group organized to reduce and
decrease violent crime in Peoria. The mission is to build a safe
community for all. Violence has no place in a safe community.
The goal is to develop a comprehensive, community-wide
strategy to reduce violent crime.
PCAV welcomes volunteers from the general public,
neighborhood associations, faith based organizations and
community service providers.
PCAV – A new innovative community approach to helping
reduce gun violence!
PCAV welcomes all that say, “We are sick and tired of violence
in our community. We will not stand for it and we will work
together to stop it.” PCAV members will be the spokespersons
for the entire community to deliver the message, “Stop the
Violence! It is not acceptable in Peoria!” Members will also
offer alternatives to violence for the sake of neighborhoods
and the community at large. PCAV is aligned with Don’t Shoot
Peoria which is dedicated to saving lives and reucing the
number of people impacted by gun crimes.
Bottom line: the safety of our community comes first.

Sidewalk
Participation
Program
The Sidewalk Participation program is a
property-owner program designed to
replace broken and/or deteriorated
sidewalk and curbs. The City will pay 80% of
the cost to replace eligible and the sidewalk
portion of the driveway, while the property
owner will pay the remaining 20%. If the
property owner meets Federal Housing and
Urban Development (HUD) Guidelines for
Low-Moderate Income, then the City will
allow the property owner to pay 10% while
the City pays 90% of the reconstruction.
The Program does not pay for the driveway
portion between the curb and sidewalk. It
also will not pay for the private sidewalk,
known as a “courtesy walk”, which connects
the public sidewalk to the street.
Applications will be accept starting March 1
through October 15 or until the funds have
been exhausted. All sidewalks and ramps
will be constructed according to
ADA/PROWAG Guidelines.
For more information about the program
and to receive an application, call (309)
