Glen Oak Christian Church in collaboration with schools, community,
individuals and organizations have provided 13,188 Weekend Snack Packs
for children at Glen Oak Community Learning Center and Valeska Hinton
Early Childhood Education Center between September 19, 2104 and
December 19, 2014. Snack Packs were packed by volunteers for 15
weeks, delivered to the schools, distributed by school administration,
teachers and staff and shared with 1044 children and their families. Donations of food
and funds were received from Mid-West Food Bank, Community Foundation of Central
Illinois, Sears Retirees, First Christian Church - Peoria, Church Women United - Peoria,
University United Methodist Church, Memorial Christian Church, Illinois Wisconsin
Christian Church [Disciples of Christ], Kings Daughters and Sons – Mizpah Circle, Chapter
AE P.E.O., Eta Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa International Teacher Sorority, DVI,
Community Workshop and Training Center and individuals from the community
including many congregational members of Glen Oak Christian Church. Financial
donations totaling $9475 were received from 15 individuals, 4 organizations, 4 religious
groups or congregations and one foundation grant. Additional gifts are anticipated,
welcomed and necessary for the Spring Semester of 2015. Cost of one snack pack
averages approximately 80 cents equaling $10,550 for the first semester. Thank you to
all who have given time, talent and financial gifts to make this food ministry possible.
