Teacher’s Guide
In this lesson, the student will learn:
 The English alphabet
 Basic introductions
 How to give basic personal information
 Subject Pronouns
 The verb “to be”
Assessments (with answer keys):
 Quiz 1.1 (Alphabet)
 Quiz 1.2 (Vocabulary List 1)
 Test 1 (Alphabet, Vocabulary List 1)
 Project 1 (Alphabet Book)
Notes:
 The goal of this lesson is to teach the alphabet and teach students vocabulary to help them express
personal information easily.
 All notes have 3 copies: Teacher’s List, Spanish/English List, and English Only List. The teacher may
want to provide the translations, or he/she may want students to look up words using a dictionary or
translator. If the teacher is bilingual, he/she may want to use the English Only List and fill in the sheet
with the students.
 Activity A (Extended Explanation): Everyone in the class answers these three questions (in English). The
teacher will probably have to help students answer the questions or provide a dictionary/translator for
students to look up their answers.
- What is your name?
- What is your favorite color?
- What is your favorite food?
With a partner, students practice asking these questions and spelling the answers that they wrote down.
Example:
- Ana: What is your name?
- Miguel (using English alphabet): M-I-G-U-E-L (Ana writes it down and Miguel checks that it is correct.)
- Miguel: What is your name?
- Ana: A-N-A (Miguel writes it down and Ana checks that it is correct.)
