LUNCH HOUR
This year our lunch hour starts at 11:54 a.m. until 12:44 p.m.
Cocobellas is our lunch program again this year. They provide exciting, high quality, healthy food through
the use of fresh, seasonal ingredients providing students with choice and variety. You will be able to order food
Monday through Friday. We also have Lunch Pails coming in Wednesday & Friday. This means parents
will have the opportunity to choose from 2 programs on those days.
Student Parliament will also be selling pizza for $2.00 a slice Tuesdays and Thursdays.

SCHOOL PHOTOS
Wednesday, September 17th is Photo Day for all students. Remember, dress up, look good and be yourself.
Picture Retake day will be on Wednesday, October 22nd.
STUDENT FEE
Student Fees this year will be $6.00 to cover the cost of the agenda.
Scooters and Skateboards: A reminder students who are using these to get to school, must not be riding
them on school property at ANY time. Also, we do not have a storage area for these items and these must be
stored in their locker if possible. The school cannot be responsible for loss of these items. They are the
Student’s responsibility. It is highly recommended that walking is a much safer way to get to school.
Bicycles: Students are reminded to lock their bicycles at the bike racks. All students are expected to respect
the property of others and stay away from the bike racks if they are not using them for their intended purpose.
KISS'N RIDE
Please ensure that you are using our Kiss and Ride area on the west side of the school to drop
off your son or daughter in the morning and to pick them up after school. There has been some
concern that students have been dropped off across the parking lot and in the bus loading area
with on-coming cars. Remember we encourage students who are within walking distance to
walk to school. The benefits of walking to school include exercise for the students and the
opportunity for students to get some fresh air. Some days we have over 350 cars entering and
exiting the parking lot area. Patience and time are required to ensure student safety. Your help
in this matter is greatly appreciated.
BUSSING
All students eligible for bussing will have received bus cards by the end of this week. If your child does not
have a bus card, they are not eligible for bussing and under no circumstance should they be riding the bus.
CANADIAN RED CROSS BABYSITTING COURSE
Students of Thomas Street Middle School will once again have the opportunity to participate in a Canadian Red
Cross Babysitting Course for anyone who is 11 years of age and up. This is a 7 hour fun filled workshop that
includes everything from first aid, safety tips, rights & responsibilities of everyone involved, physical
capabilities of all ages of children, diapering, what makes a good babysitter, tips for SAFELY finding
babysitting jobs and much more!!!
This course will be starting September 24th. Students should listen for the announcement on when and where
they may pick up registration forms.
NEWSLETTER
To keep parents informed about upcoming events, a monthly newsletter will be sent home at the beginning of
each month with the exception of the June newsletter which will go home with the final report card.
TSMS IS A SCENT FREE SCHOOL.
Please do not wear scented products of any kind!!
From the Agenda “Due to allergies to perfumes and colognes, please be respectful to those who may be
sensitive. Body sprays and aerosol containers are banned from Thomas Street.”
DROP OFFS
Please deliver all forgotten lunches, projects, Phys. Ed. clothing, musical instruments, etc. to the main office.
Be sure to label the items with your child's name and homeroom number. This will help avoid anyone going
without a lunch. It is recommended that students bring their lunches with them in the morning. This makes
better use of the allocated time for their lunch.
LOCKDOWN/FIREDRILL PROCEDURE
The Peel District School Board asks all schools to do two lock down practices during the school year. Our first
Lockdown will be Friday, September 19th.
Our first Fire Drill will be Thursday, September 18th,
MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT
Wednesday, September 24, 2014
6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Meet your child's teachers and view the various displays in the gym.
ARRIVALS & DISMISSALS
Students are reminded that they should not be on school property before 8:15 a.m. or after 2:45 p.m.
unless they are part of special teams or events. There is no supervision before 8:15 or after 2:45.
All students are encouraged to be on school property by 8:15 a.m. The entry bell sounds at 8:20 a.m. Students
have 10 minutes to go to their lockers, go to the washroom and be sitting down in their Period 1 class when the
second bell sounds at 8:30 a.m. Please note that at 8:30 a.m., if a student is not in their classroom sitting down
ready to start their period 1 class, then he/she is considered late and is sent to the office for a late slip.
HERE AT TSMS WE STRIVE TO BE NUT FREE
As you know Thomas Street requests that peanut or nut products not be brought into the school. Anaphylaxis is
a life threatening allergy in which symptoms range from hives to coma and even death. Exposure to 1/1000 of a
peanut can cause a reaction. This is why peanut butter is especially dangerous because, as you know, it is
messy and spreads easily to hands, faces, desktops, etc. Some parents say that their children will only eat
peanut butter so please offer it at a meal other than lunch or at snack time after school. Thank you in advance
for your understanding and cooperation in keeping our students safe.
