Prohibition was a major historic point in the U.S. Prohibition started in the 1920. The Prohibition act was that any beer, wine, or other intoxicating alcohol beverages that had more than 0.5% alcohol by volume was illegal. (Rosenberg) That was why a lot of people bought cases of in before the act went in to order. (Rosenberg) President Woodrow Wilson introduced a temporary wartime prohibition. (Prohibition) It was meant to save grain to produce more food for the soldiers (Prohibition) Doctors were the only people to be able to legally prescribe it to you. (Rosenberg) You would have to have a lot of money to bribe a doctor to get that prescription There were so many things that happened in the 1920. Prohibition brought a new era of gangsters to the world. (Rosenberg) With the high demand for liquor the gangsters took control. (Rosenberg) At which brought a large profit to them so they were able to keep doing it. (Rosenberg) Gangsters opened up secret bars for people. (Rosenberg) That way they were safe from the police. Gangsters were able to get men to smuggle in the liquor while they sold it. (Graham) These men were called rumrunners and they got it be smuggling it from the Caribbean and high jacking it from Canada and bringing it back to the U.S. (Graham) There was so much alcohol wanted and many people kept getting it. Law enforcement had a ridicules job keeping everyone in control Prohibition agents were in charge of arresting gangster and finding the secret bars. (Rosenberg) Many of these agents were underpaid so they were also easily bribed and two-faced. Roberts 2 (Rosenberg) Prohibition brought a large rise in criminal activity due to bootlegging. (Prohibition) Law enforcements were able to put bootleggers in jail, and prison There were 227 killer in a 4 year period that’s not even close to the amount there were (Chamernik) Law enforcements had a hard job and probably couldn’t even trust their own partner. Al Capon was a real famous gangster in the world during the prohibition era. (Rosenberg) Al Capon earned about 60 million dollars from bootlegging operations and speakeasies. (Chamernik) It was a large money making business. When Al Capon was in school he beat up his teacher. (World Biography) As punishment the principle beat up. (World Biography) Al Capon received a razor cut to the side of the face in a bar fight that is how he got the nickname Scarface. (World Biography) He met a young lady named Mea Coughlin, with whom had a boy with and named him Albert Francis Capon. (World Biography) Al Capon was a gangster that was probably responsible for many of the police officers and gangsters that were gunned down. Prohibition was a important part of life even if it was a failure. Prohibition was a major historic point in the U.S. Prohibition brought a lot of problems to the us.
