Vocabulary / Spelling Homework Contract:
Each vocabulary/spelling unit will last for two weeks. At the end of the first week, the students will
take a spelling test covering the ten words designated as spelling words. All twenty words will be
tested on a vocabulary test at the end of the second week. For the vocabulary test, students will
be expected to understand the meaning of each word and be able to use each word in a sentence
that shows meaning.
Example:
Sentence showing meaning – Fiction books tell stories that are made up.
Sentence not showing meaning – I like fiction books.
The vocabulary/spelling words for this unit are on the next page. You will have two weeks to
complete your homework. Your homework contract will be due on the Friday at the end of the two
weeks.
Week 1 – Choose 4 different assignments from the choice board using your ten spelling words.
Try to use all of the words from the spelling list throughout the week.
Week 2 – Choose 4 different assignments from the choice board using the vocabulary words. Be
sure to use the ten words that you didn’t use week one. Remember that all 20 vocabulary words will
be tested at the end of this week.
