Professor of Microbiology and Immunobiology at Harvard Medical School
The Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard together with Harvard Medical School (HMS)
and the Massachusetts General Hospital are seeking an outstanding scientist at the Professor
level to assume a leadership role within the Institute. The vision of the Institute, founded in
2009, is to engage in cross-disciplinary collaborative research to harness the immune system to
prevent and cure human disease, with the initial goal of contributing to the development of an
HIV vaccine. The Ragon Institute seeks candidates who are interested in being a part of this
vision by committing significant effort to the goal of advancing our understanding of the human
immune system to accelerate vaccine development. Individuals are sought whose expertise
complements existing programs at the Ragon Institute especially in the areas of Immunology,
Systems Biology and Vaccinology.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing their research program, guiding
strategy, scientific direction, funding decisions and future recruitment efforts of the Ragon
Institute.
He/she will receive a competitive start-up package to support his/her scientific
research and will help guide the use of annual philanthropic support designed to accelerate
innovative, cross disciplinary collaborative research. Additionally, the chosen individual will
provide an important interface with MIT and HMS in fostering the goals of the Ragon Institute to
bring scientists from diverse backgrounds into the HIV vaccine field. As such, the successful
candidate will be appointed Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunobiology at
Harvard Medical School, in addition to an appointment within the Department of Medicine at
Massachusetts General Hospital. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be provided
an endowed chair at Harvard.
Candidates should have a M.D., Ph.D., M.D. /Ph.D. or equivalent degree and should demonstrate
a track record of exceptional achievement in biomedical research. Although candidates do not
need to have a background in HIV, they should be committed to participating in collaborative,
interdisciplinary research that will advance the goal of an effective HIV vaccine. The position
will provide superb opportunities to catalyze truly innovative science through internal funding
mechanisms, and to mentor postdoctoral fellows and doctoral students in the graduate programs
at HMS and MIT.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae including a list of
publications, and a brief statement of research interests and future plans by email to:
