Request for E-Learning Applications
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is accepting proposals to fund a curricular redesign, which
incorporates substantial active learning components in health science education using a combination of elearning, flipped classrooms, blended learning, and other modalities.
We define active learning as anything that engages students in the process of learning through a combination of
information gathering, problem solving, group discussions, and other participation techniques. Active learning
does not include merely watching a video, listening to a lecture, or taking notes.
Up to $25,000 will be awarded to faculty from different colleges for curricular redesign. The college will also
agree to commit matching funds in support of the curricular redesign.
The curricular redesign is to be completed and implemented in the intended courses by the fall 2016 term. Access
to the funds from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will expire upon completion of the 2016
fiscal year. Data collection and reporting regarding results, scholarship, and presentations will be required two
times a year through the 2020 spring term.
E-learning components created shall be made available to all UNMC faculty for use in other courses through the
institutional repository or other means. Award winners have the option to make the components available for
public access as open source content or work with UNeMed to distribute nationally under a subscription basis.
Any assets, such as software or hardware, purchased with funding from the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
will be returned to Academic Affairs when the project director is no longer part of the awarded academic unit.
Each proposal should include the:

Application — thoroughly complete and sign the document (attached).

Estimated timeline — show the timetable for completing and implementing the project, indicate
milestones, and show schedule for data collection and reporting.

Detailed budget projection — indicate how funding will be used and explain why expenditures are
essential to the success of the project.
Proposals must be submitted electronically to Academic Affairs via email (elearnlab@unmc.edu) for review by the
E-Learning Steering Committee. The submission period starts June 15, 2015. Awards will be granted on a firstcome basis. The period remains open until Sept. 18, 2015 or until all awards are granted, whichever comes first.
