WAUSAU EAST HIGH SCHOOL
COACHES EXPECTATIONS
ACTIVITY: BOYS BASKETBALL
School Year: 2015-2016
The Athletic Code states that each coach will establish in writing their expectations
which are to include student athlete behavior. This supplement is developed to identify
unacceptable student conduct which is contrary to the ideals, principles, and standards
of the school and District. Although a major portion of this supplement deals with
expectations as a member of this team, your behavior as a member of our community
and within our school society will be recognized. If your behavior is unacceptable, you
will be subject to the appropriate discipline explained herein.
Coach’s expectations are effective from the official starting date of this season through
the last day of your official competition in this sport, and will accumulate on a per
season basis only, not over your high school career. Each season requires a coach’s
expectation to be signed by both student athlete and parents/guardians.
COACHES’ EXPECTATIONS
BOYS BASKETBALL
1.
Players are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate, respectful, manner at all times. You are a
representative of your family and Wausau East High School. Please take this seriously.
2.
Treat your teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents with respect.
3.
Players need to be coachable. Coaches are here to help you become better individuals and players.
Work with them to achieve this.
4.
Team members are responsible for all equipment issued to them. If lost or damaged, it will be expected
that players or their parents pay an appropriate fee to cover replacement costs. It is also your
responsibility to clean out your locker at the end of the season!
5.
As part of a team, players are expected to be on time for all functions associated with Wausau East
Basketball (i.e., bus trips, practice, team meetings, etc.). Discipline is at the discretion of the coach.
6.
Mature, respectable grooming is expected of all team members. Length of hair and sideburns is by
coach’s discretion.
7.
Academic performance is expected to be at the level that is appropriate for each individual and must
meet minimum standards of the Wausau School District’s High School Athletic Code. You are here as a
student first and a basketball player second.
8.
Participation in athletics does not exempt student athletes from physical education classes or
requirements. Student athletes are required to attend and participate in all their required physical
education classes. Unexcused absence or non-participation in physical education classes will result in
removal from practice or games that same day.
9.
Misconduct and misbehavior on or off school grounds will result in discipline at the discretion of the
head coach. Your “character” is displayed on and off the court.
10.
Team members will ride to and from games on the bus unless other arrangements are approved in
advance by the Activities Director and the appropriate coach. Any exception to this is limited to
transportation by or with your parents only!
11.
Proper dress at home and away games is required. Players and coaches will determine the dress code.
Inappropriate conduct will result in disciplinary action at the discretion of the coaches.
12.
During game and practice situations, the players are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner. Abuse towards officials, taunting, profanity, or technical fouls will not be tolerated.
13.
If a player has a problem with the coach or with a team member, he should discuss the situation with
the coach first. If things still cannot be worked out, then he should go to the Head Varsity Coach. Team
situations should be dealt with on that level.
