Heritage Doll Project -Due Tuesday, June 16th
Dear Students and Parents,
This year we learned about four countries and their cultures: Mexico,
Canada, South Africa, and Italy. Throughout the year the children have made
many text–to-self connections by associating their lives to the Social Studies
textbook. We have heard so many stories about the places you have visited, the
places your families are from, the ethnic food you have eaten, different clothing
styles they have noticed, and differences in the towns and countries that you
and/or the children have visited. To end our Social Studies unit, the children will
create a heritage doll based on your family heritage along with a family crest
(which we will do in class).
Attached is your child’s heritage doll. Please have your child decorate his/her
doll according to your family’s heritage. Have fun and be creative. On June 16th
we will be sharing our heritage dolls and learning all about the different cultures
that make up our 3-2 family.
 The doll’s clothing should reflect one of the countries your family is from.
 Please place the flag of the country you have chosen in one of the dolls
hands. You may place any other object in the dolls other hand if you choose.
 They may use any arts and crafts supplies to make these dolls creative and
beautiful. You can google heritage dolls and click images for a few ideas.
Some students in the past have used felt, cotton, yarn, “doll” clothes,
construction paper, gems, glitter, chains, images printed from the internet
,etc.
