The registration fee per person is $120. iii) Bring with you at least 2 pairs of casual clothes and a piece of formal attire for dinners and awards. PTK Family Night – Sarina Tang, Membership Coordinator i) We will divide the members into six families, and each PTK member will receive email from Sarina about which family you will be in. ii) At Family Night, food will be provided. We will have icebreakers, games, and competition. Oct 19 – Science Night Volunteer Opportunity i) Our chapter will enter a design competition to decorate a room according to a certain theme. We will decorate a room according to a science theme such as biochemistry or physics, and the winner will earn 100 dollars. ii) The event will take place from 3:30pm to 9:00pm. Tuesday, October 30 – Coast Days i) We will be selling food at our booth during Coast Days. ii) The theme of Coast Days will be “Hawaiian Luau.” Green Coast Days Water Logo Contest – Sponsored by PTK i) The Water Logo Contest is a 2D graphic design / logo design contest that will determine the logo for Green Coast Day’s Tap Water Consumption Program, a program intended to convince people to consume less bottled water and to reduce the amount of discarded plastic bottles in waste landfills. ii) Entries for logo designs are due on October 30, 2012. iii) The winner will earn a $200 cash prize. Scholarships from PTK Headquarters i) A PTK Member ID, Membership Certificate, and ptk.org login information is required to access PTK national organization scholarships. If you recently accepted membership to our chapter and did not yet receive these items, Terry is working to get you those items soon. ii) When you receive your Member ID and login information, you can apply for the following scholarships at ptk.org. (1) Guistwhite Scholarships (a) Eligible recipients may not already have a college degree (ex. AA/AS/Bachelor’s/Masters/Doctorate.) (b) Recipients must have a minimum 3.5 GPA. (c) Up to 20 people will receive this scholarship, and each person will receive $5,000. (2) Hites Transfer Scholarship (a) The Hites Transfer Scholarship is for transfer students that will be applying during this academic year to transfer to four-year universities. (b) The academic “teams” are statewide and nationwide ranking systems for the achievements and academic performance of students. No face-to-face contest between applicants will be involved. (c) Carla Martinez, the OCC Dean of Students, must nominate Orange Coast College students who seek nomination for the academic teams. A message on My OCC will be posted when she is ready to accept nominations for the academic teams. (d) Only 2 students from OCC will be nominated. (e) Historically, nominated candidates have a 3.75 GPA or higher and undergo an interview process to narrow the field down to two applicants. This is a highly selective and competitive process. (4) Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships (a) This scholarship awards successful recipients up to $30,000 per year. This amount increases to $50,000 per year if the recipient attends graduate school. (b) Students are nominated by highly selective process. It is a national scholarship, and our campus may only nominate a maximum of 2 people. (c) Only 60 of these scholarships are awarded nationally. (d) Dean of Students Carla Martinez must nominate OCC students seeking this scholarship. (5) The PTK Fall Common Scholarship Application is due by December 1. Open Floor a) Arthur, our Fundraising Coordinator, told attendees about the ongoing Book Drive Fundraiser and an upcoming See’s Candy Fundraiser. i) There will be a Book Drive volunteer opportunity from October 15 to October 19. Volunteers will help collect and process donations of used books. b) Alex Parkin, a chapter member, encouraged fellow members to see the OCC Theatre Department’s production of the play “Sherlock Holmes.” i) “Sherlock Holmes” opens up next weekend, with performances from Friday to Sunday. Secretary Rick Matsumoto motioned to appoint Kandice Knopp to the position of Scholarly Events Coordinator for the 2012-2013 Academic Year. a) Treasurer Vinh Nguyen seconded the motion. b) A vote was taken and the motion was carried. The next chapter meeting (PTK Family Night) will be held on October 16, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Student Center Lounge. President Phil Ly adjourned this chapter meeting at 3:55 pm.
