Proposal to develop a taxonomy of

Artefacts

for HuNI

V0.1 DRAFT

Need for a taxonomy of Artefacts Identified

Analysis of the high level User Stories to date by the Semantic Lead has indicated most if not all the user stories are referencing some kind of artefact, primarily ones that are some kind of creative work. Different stories have different needs to be able to identify particular types of artefacts, for instance some require identifying types of literature whilst others may want to investigate some form or art or sculpture, such as Aboriginal shell art.

As facilitating the study of artistic and cultural artefacts is at the core of HuNI, it is recommended that HuNI develop a suitable taxonomy for classifying cultural artefacts across all the user stories and data sources.

It needs to be both specific enough and complete enough to fulfil researchers’ and other users’ needs and expectations.

EDG input invited

We would like to invite the EDG’s input into the taxonomy. What will work best for researchers’ needs? Researchers need to zero in on the kind of artefact(s) they are interested in, so this really needs to be tailored to them and how they want to work.

Indication of the kind of taxonomy that will be needed

The analysis of user stories is not yet complete, but so far indications are that the the kind of taxonomy we are seeking to develop is something along these lines (this is not complete, just an indication based on some of the user requirements collected):
