Programs and Services
Southeast Alternative School (SAS) offers students a comprehensive, strength-based, therapeutic program that addresses their educational, clinical, vocational, social, recreational and behavioral needs. Our vocational component is community-based, partnering with the business community to emphasize "real-life" skills needed to obtain and maintain employment. Students may participate in internships designed specifically for their needs and interests. In addition to instruction that is aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, individual, group, expressive arts, community service learning and milieu counseling is provided. The school also employs a registered nurse, a technology coordinator and a speech and language therapist. The school uses a multi-disciplinary team approach; we work in partnership with the student, his/her family, the public schools and collateral professionals. We are committed to comprehensive transition planning and successfully returning students to a less restrictive academic environment or community based activity as quickly as possible. Our comprehensive approach helps students to develop positive community connections while achieving personal goals such as returning to public schools, preparing for full-time employment, or moving towards further education or vocational training. The school operates from mid-August to the end of June.
