PEDAGOGICAL DIRECTOR Syringa Mountain School provides a Waldorf education in a public school setting. Syringa is the first public Waldorf charter school in Idaho and the first public school of choice in the Wood River Valley. What is Syringa Mountain School? It is a K-8 public Waldorf school of choice that Nurtures the intellect, imagination, and emotional life of each child. Offers a rigorous, relevant, balanced, and memorable liberal arts education. Incorporates sustainable living practices and experiential learning through daily animal husbandry and gardening skills. Infuses academics with singing, painting, drawing, flute, violin, storytelling, handwork, and drama. Touches children’s hearts and kindles their imaginations. We require the following of our Pedagogical Director: Reports to: SMS Board of Directors Background, Duties, and Responsibilities The Pedagogical Director must have a sound educational philosophy, background, and vision grounded in Waldorf education and must be committed to service to a diverse community including children from poverty and English Learners. Further, the Pedagogical Director must have demonstrated leadership capacity to guide the school’s curriculum, assessment, teaching, learning, professional development, and student achievement as well as an expressed willingness and plan to be accessible to staff, community and students. The Pedagogical Director works closely with the School Director to coadminister and develop the school. Human Resources developing employment contracts where appropriate, and supervising, supporting, developing, evaluating, disciplining and terminating with the School Director the SMS teachers, specials teachers, classroom assistants and consultants. Educational Leadership m staff and Board on program alignment to school mission and vision SMS Parent Council around parent education, curriculum, fundraising, events, festivities and parent agreements. Ensures that the SMS curriculum is aligned to charter petition, state standards, and mission, and is infused with Waldorf instructional practices whole staff. Monitors school-wide assessment and data collection. SYRINGA MOUNTAIN SCHOOL, Post Office Box 3531, Hailey, Idaho 83333 208-720-6327 www.syringamountainschool.org -parent meetings Co-plans parent education events and speakers with staff and parents coordination and implementation of SMS student discipline policy Assists in the creation of a Master Schedule aligned with the SMS vision and mission as expressed in the charter Co- leads Staff Council to create a strong educational program positive school climate and conditions through a strong professional learning community Faculty Supervision ffective support is provided School Director SMS Charter and policies adopted by the SMS Governing Board using and through Waldorf inspired strategies assessing their students, both formally and informally, to inform their lesson planning and reports to parents • Carries an awareness of educational trends within and external to the Waldorf movement • Coordinates faculty implementation of strategic and operating plan goals within the pedagogical realm of the school • Offers teacher support through problem solving, delegation, adaptive perspective, supportive feedback and servant leadership • Upholds healthy lines of communication regarding pedagogical issues among and between the faculty, board of trustees, parents and greater community • Facilitates healthy feedback, timely follow through, and accountability for the school’s pedagogical mission • Works with the School Director to oversee the faculty-hiring process and recruitment efforts • Works with Staff Council to oversee the faculty support, mentoring and evaluation processes • Works with faculty governance council to implement and administer personnel and professional conduct policies, including the school’s progressive discipline policy • Oversees the leadership skills management and growth within the faculty • Oversees faculty committee work, including proper documentation of committees for healthy institutional memory • Reviews substitute plans and trains substitutes as needed • Attends Board meetings as needed and attendance of Parent Council • Meets with School Director and administrative staff weekly for communication and collaborative problem solving Governance and Internal Relations ead facilitator of the Staff Council and develops agenda with consultation from its members.
