TITLE: Special Events Coordinator
COMPENSATION: $8.90/hour; 15 hours/week (average)
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Special Events Committee, a
volunteer student programming organization that plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates
the annual Homecoming and WinterFest activities.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Provide overall direction for the Special Events Committee and its activities, including
Homecoming and WinterFest.
2.
Recruit, orient, and train members of the Special Events Committee.
3.
Coordinate the selection and training of the chairpeople of Special Events
Subcommittees.
4.
Maintain 8-10 posted office hours so as to be available to Committee members, other
students, faculty, staff, and community members.
5.
Assist in the preparation of the Special Events budget and monitor all expenditures.
6.
Monitor and assist with attempts to arrange for sponsorships and special promotions.
7.
Maintain files, notebooks, and "how to" materials for Special Events programs.
8.
Coordinate the selection process for the annual Student Organization Awards.
9.
Chair the planning committee for the Leadership Recognition Banquet.
10.
Assist with leadership and other office presentations both in and out of the classroom.
11.
Assist with the production of the semesterly Care Package Program.
12.
Assist with the maintenance of campus posting areas.
13.
Prepare reports, answer correspondence, and make presentations as deemed necessary
by the Director, Associate Director, or Coordinator of the Center for Student Enrichment.
14.
Attend staff meetings, retreats, and regularly scheduled meetings with the Graduate
Assistant of the Center for Student Enrichment.
15.
Communicate regularly with the Graduate Assistant of the Center for Student Enrichment.
16.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Graduate Assistant of the Center for
Student Enrichment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
From the CSE Graduate Student Assistant.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher; minimum semester G.P.A. of 2.5 or
higher during the semester preceding application for employment; a minimum G.P.A. of
2.5 or higher must be earned each semester for continuation of employment.
2. Sophomore status or above.
3. Above average communication skills — writing, speaking, and listening.
4. Experience as a member of at least one student organization at Northern Michigan
University.
5. Work-study preferred.
