Modified Puissance Over 14.2hh Riders must enter the arena according to the draw. Riders must be correctly attired in either their Pony Club uniform or a hacking jacket, tie, boots, hat and whip when walking the course. Jumpers and jackets may be removed if the temperature so dictates and only as stipulated by the judge. Any changes/alterations to the draw are only amended at the discretion of the judge. A rider can only ride the same horse in an event once. A horse can only be entered in each class once with a maximum of 4 events each day. All riders/mounts must ride as per entries they have submitted. Please do not ask to change classes you have entered in as refusal may offend. All events will be run in accordance to PCAWA Rules, Committee reserves the right to cut short the jumping program if necessary. The judge and/or organisers may delete, change or add to the programme on the day. Description of Events OPTIMUM TIME - the rider endeavors to ride the course according to how the judge has measured the course and worked out which speed it should be ridden at. The rider closest to the time with the least amount of faults is the winner. AM7 – A competitor with a clear round rides a jump off course before leaving the arena. The competitor has 45 seconds only to go through the starting flags after the judge sounds the bell for the jump-off. The AM7 jumpoff may include two new obstacles in the course AM3 – One round not against the clock. Competitors with equal faults, for first place jump off against the clock. JIGSAW PAIRS – A course is built of say 10 – 12 obstacles divided in half with start and finish flags in the middle. On the whistle, two riders, one to jump each half of the course simultaneously, pass through the start/finish flags in any direction. After jumping their half in any order they must pass through the start/finish flags in any direction. The time is taken is taken from when the first horse crosses the starting line and until the second horse crosses the finishing line FIVE BAR – The course consists of five identical upright obstacles composed of rails in a straight line 11 metres apart. All obstacles may be the same height or at progressive heights: some of the obstacles are raised after each round. If a competitor incurs a refusal or run-out they must restart the obstacle where the fault occurred and may not continue in the next round. If a rail is knocked down the competitor is out of the competition. After the fourth jump off rounds the competition must stop. There are a total of 5 rounds. TOP SCORE- Competitors may jump obstacles in any order and from either direction. All obstacles must be jumped once. Time recorded by crossing the start/finish line from either direction and is the competitors total time taken to jump all obstacles. Refusals are penalized by loss of time: however 3 refusals on course will incur elimination. A knocked obstacle will incur 5 seconds added. POWER & SPEED – One round competition, judged in two parts with two set of start & finish flags. The course consists of 10 to 12 obstacles. The first 5 or 6 obstacles are of maximum height and spread. The last 5 or 6 obstacles may be lower to allow for speed riding. Competitors must jump the first 5 or 6 obstacles clear to continue onto the last 5 or 6 obstacles, which are judged by the clock. A whist or bell will sound at the end of the first 5 or 6 obstacles if penalties have been incurred and the competitor leaves the arena. If there is no bell, the competitor continues in the speed section. PUISSANCE (Modified) – Puissance is a high jump competition. It consists of 1/2 ‘practice fences’ leading up to the puissance wall. The fences before the wall are optional for the competitor in each round and are not penalized - with the exception of 3 refusals, this will incur elimination. If a competitor incurs a refusal or runout at the wall they must restart the obstacle where the fault occurred and may not continue in the next round. If a rail is knocked down at a previous fence the competitor may continue to the wall with no penalties. As the competition goes on, the jump is built increasingly higher until only one horse clears the wall. COURSE PENALTIES – 1st Disobedience - 4 penalties, 2nd - 8 penalties, 3rd - Elimination. Obstacle knocked while jumping 4 penalties, disobedience & knocking down obstacle 4 penalties + 4 seconds. GUIDELINES FOR EQUITATION COMPETITORS Equitation: a correct method of riding over fences Presentation is the overall smartness of the rider and horse including correct gear and the manner in which the rider presents to, and salutes the judge. There is NOT a detailed look into the cleanliness of the horse. Competitors ride a wide variety of horses/ponies with differing lengths of stride. The actual number of strides between related fences is not so important provided the stride is even, rhythmical and maintained. Some mounts may put in four strides and others five. In either case the stride should not be rushing or short and proppy. The horse/pony should not put in four and a half strides. Corners should remain rounded and smooth with the balance and rhythm being maintained. It is very important that the horse/pony does not cut corners or ‘hang out’. When marking the jumping obstacles/fences, consideration will be given to the approach, negotiation of, and departure from the fence. It is expected that a good line would be followed throughout the round, with no weaving . RIDER POSITION Whilst the ultimate position may be two point, it is more important to be slightly forward (shoulder over knee over toe), with the seat close to the saddle (three point) for safety, following the movement. Contact must be maintained through the round, with release given over fences. Fixed hands will lose marks. The rider must remain balanced on the corners and the eyes must be looking to the line. The legs behind the girth, maintaining a steady position. The mark for overall impression is given at the end of the round with the emphasis being placed on the control, balance, smoothness, rhythm, tempo and line ridden.
