Margulies Guardian Circle 2016 You may not be aware of the fact that the Margulies Senior Center operates on a significant annual deficit and each senior social JCC membership is heavily subsidized. In these times it has become increasingly challenging to meet this subsidy. In order to maintain our current level of service we are seeking additional donations. You can help us by joining our Margulies Guardian Circle. This program gives you the opportunity to support the programs of the Margulies Center and to continue its growth. Each month all the Guardians will be listed here in the bulletin. We THANK all our Guardian Circle members for their generosity in support of the Margulies Senior Center: PLATINUM ($1000 and up) Anne Silberstein Cohen, Rose Eckstein, Edith Geller, Marcia Gabbe*, Sonia Kurland* GOLD ($500-999) Helen Decker Claire Seidner Scholz SILVER ($180-499) Josette Amhi Jack Stern Hannah Stern Myra Cohen Golda Schwartz Township of WO Selma Krever Rose Lerner Evelyne LernerSavel Mitzi Kreinberg Florence Berzon Fred Pearl Marian Brenner* *in memoriam ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RELAXATION By Harry Hollander One of the important concepts I have learned is that thoughts that we have manifest in the body and often create disease. One of the meanings of disease when hyphenated means not at ease. There are many ways to de-stress. Some of the things I do to relax are: listening to classical music, enjoying the beauty of nature- noticing the beautiful cloud formations, the magnificent colors on the trees in the fall, and the joy of interacting with young children as well as watching them perform- as the Hillside School Troupe did recently. What I appreciate so much about the young ones is their honest reactions. Like dogs and other animals, they provide unconditional love. To share in a men’s group every other Saturday where we are able to share whatever concerns us in what we call a “check in.” The beauty of it is: everyone is secure in knowing that whatever we share remains in the room. It becomes a wonderful support system. To me, it is a departure from previous generations when men weren’t supposed to show their vulnerability-i.e., to be a man- crying in public was taboo. To share hugs and kisses with those that you care about a great deal- I kiss my son- something which never happened between my father and me. Being liberated and sharing emotions openly is also a meaningful de-stressor. As most of you know, I’m a great Cardinals baseball fan and watching their games is a wonderful departure from world affairs. Letting my mind be at rest-by walking a mile around the track is a wonderful activity to be at peace. Most important, honor the thoughts of all- avoid confrontations. Always be thoughtful and paramount: Honesty is the best policy. Practice the concepts in the Serenity Prayer. I hope some of my ideas will be useful to any one of you to help you relax.
