Dear Mare Owner,
Thank you for your interest in breeding to our stallion, Frenchmans Elvis. Enclosed is a shipped semen and/or on site AI contract and
mare approval form that you have requested. Please take the time to read the contract and fill out the mare approval form.
Our 2016 breeding season is shaping up to be a great one. We will be again limiting Frenchmans Elvis’ book so in order to guarantee
a spot, you will need to provide the following:
1. A completed Mare Approval Form. Subject to approval by O-O Barrel Horses.
2. A completed and signed Shipped Semen or On Site AI breeding contract.
3. A copy of mare’s registration papers, front and back.
4. Non-refundable booking fee of $150.
No spot will be saved until all four items are received. You are welcome to complete and send us the Mare Approval Form beforehand
to make sure mare is approved or, you can send everything in at once. If for some reason, O-O Barrel Horses does not approve the
mare, the booking fee will be returned to you and contract will be null and void.
We do our best for our clients to help them get their mare in foal. Breeding on-site Artificial Insemination is very successful; however it
requires intensive mare management with perfect timing. We highly recommend that you watch your mare’s heat cycles and bring her
to the stallion at the start of her heat cycle. To help insure an active and receptive heat cycle, especially early in the breeding season
(April – early May), please have your mare in good flesh. Many times the mares may cycle early, but will be not be fertile. We’ve found
the most success with letting the mare go through at least one heat cycle before bringing her to the stallion if possible.
After arrival to the stallion the mare does not show heat within 7 days, we will ultrasound to see where the mare is at in producing a
follicle. It is helpful to either know when the mare last cycled or have had an ultrasound done prior to bringing her to the stallion to
know if a Lutalyse or Estrumate injection would be beneficial in bringing the mare into a heat cycle. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE
LUTALYSE OR ESTRUMATE WITHOUT KNOWING THE MARE HAS AN ACTIVE CORPUS LUTEUM. Injection of these shots given
at the wrong time of the cycle will decrease fertility and screw up the cycle.
In addition to breeding mares on site, we also offer shipped semen. In doing so, we only collect and breed on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday for the season of April 1 – June 30th. When breeding mares on site, we do breed with fresh semen if available however, if it
is known that a mare needs breed on an off collection day and cooled semen is available, we will breed the mare on site with cooled
semen. If you know the mare will need to be bred on a certain day, we need to know by 8:00 a.m. MT of collection day that we need to
save semen if extra is available. Mares are bred on a first come, first serve basis with horses on the premises receiving priority.
After your mare has been bred and gone out of heat, you are welcome to pick up your mare or leave her until she’s confirmed
pregnant. A veterinarian will come out to pregnancy test mares here between 14-18 days post breeding. If you take your mare before
that time frame, it is your responsibility to have her ultrasounded. Please do not wait on this pregnancy check and let us know as soon
as possible if a pregnancy is confirmed or not. If we are not informed of pregnancy status within 30 days post service, a $150 re-breed
fee will be due before we breed the mare again.
We hope that this letter along with the contract will answer most of your questions and give you a good guideline, however if you have
any questions or concerns, please always feel free to contact us. We have found that open communication is never a bad thing.
Thank you again for your interest in our stallion and we look forward to working with you! Here’s to a successful breeding season!
Blessings,
Philip & Andrea Huft

We put a lot of faith into our stallion, Frenchmans Elvis and feel that he really stamps his foals with a good mind, solid
