Votum (dark progressive metal/rock/experimental)
The band:
Votum combines a dark and vibrant atmosphere with heavy metal traditions, bringing both force and
ambience to play. The band is no stranger to musical diversity, with subtle cinematic frailty and
modern electronica, powerful guitars, as well as acoustic ballads, which all combine to create a fresh
and unique blend of progressive rock and metal. Released back in 2008, Time must have a stop along
with sophomore Metafiction (2009), Harvest Moon (2013) and freshly minted :ktonik: (to be
released early 2016) form an unparalleled mix of emotions and power, crafting the intriguing style of
the band. In 2015 with the change of band’s vocalist and guitarist the music took to a darker and

With 4 LP albums and hundreds of on-stage performances - including shows with such bands as
Opeth, Anathema, Pain of Salvation, Katatonia, Korn and European tour with Riverside - Votum is one
of the most influential artists and the creators of the New Wave of Polish Prog.
A chapter of Michał Wilczyński’s book „A Guide to Polish Progressive Rock” was dedicated to the
band’s music (ISBN: 978-83-61637-00-4). “The Pun” from „Time must have a stop” was listeners’
choice for one of the top tracks of 2009 by European Klassik Radio.
The albums: Time must have a stop, Metafiction, Harvest moon
„Time must have a stop”, „Metafiction” and „Harvest moon” are concept albums as Votum is not
only concerned with sound. The band pays the utmost attention to song lyrics which function as a
sort of binding material for the compositions. In addition, rich visual setting serves as a background
for each and every piece. The merging of music, lyrics and visual artwork, as well as the ensuing
emotional expression, have been the key concepts for the creation of the albums. Votum’s main
concern is not any particular style of music, but its atmosphere.

After a change in the line-up, new singer (Bartosz Sobieraj), new guitars (Piotr Lniany) and a new
quality emerged. With careful consideration the band had chosen studios to best reflect the
characteristic of their new sound /Izabelin Studio, Prusiewicz Sound Studio, Hertz Studio/. The mixes
of the 4h album took place in Ghost Ward Studio with David Castillo in charge /known for his
cooperation with Katatonia, Bloodbath, Opeth, Eluveitie or InMe/. The mastering of :ktonik: was
done by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios /known for his works with Paradise Lost,
Kreator, Enslaved, Katatonia , James La Brie or Witchcraft/.
The album will be released by the beginning of 2016 /Inner Wound Recordings/.
