Earth’s Interior Project Due Date: Objective: To create a poster modeling and explaining Earth’s interior layers. Directions: You will individually create a poster modeling and describing the different layers of Earth’s interior. You will have the next 3 days in class to complete your research. Each day you will be required to complete certain objectives. If you do not complete the objectives for that day, it is your responsibly to complete it for homework. Day 1: Draw and label each layer using the data table below onto your poster. Draw your diagram like a slice of pizza, do not draw it as a whole circle. Your diagram must show the accurate measurements of each layer. Yes, this will be measured for a grade. Tape 2 poster boards together (hold them vertically next to each other). 2. Draw an arc in the middle of your poster. This will represent the surface of Earth. Be sure not to use the entire poster, so that you will have room for your information. 3. Using a ruler, draw 2 diagonal lines that meet at one point. Each line must be 63.7 cm long. You model will look like a “pie-shaped slice.” 4. Using the data table above, measure out each layer. 5. Refer to the example provided to assist you. Day 2: Using the textbook and the websites provided below, research each layer. Write a description for each layer on your poster. Your description must include but is not limited to; o Temperature o Depth from the surface o Thickness of the layer Day 3: Continue researching description of each layer. Today you will describe; o Composition o Physical State o Density o Interesting Characteristics Earth’s Interior Project Due Date: Websites: National Geographic http://www.ngkids.co.uk/science-and-nature/structure-of-the-earth Geography4kids http://www.geography4kids.com/files/earth_intro.html Kids-Fun-Science http://www.kids-fun-science.com/earths-interior.html Earth’s Structure http://www.learner.org/interactives/dynamicearth/structure.html http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/geophys/earthstruct.html Textbook Pages Holt Earth Science (yellow textbook) - pg. 28-29 Prentice Hall Earth Science Textbook (Blue Book)- pg. 233-235
