POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM OF THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PELOPONNESE Dear friends and all those who are interested in our postgraduate program, The Greek Ministry of Education has approved the 2014-2015 Postgraduate Program of the Department of Theatre Studies - School of Fine Arts at the University of the Peloponnese in Nafplio, Greece. Although the University is currently closed for summer break, we understand the excitement and anticipation of all those who are interested in joining our postgraduate program the coming academic year (from September 2014). Therefore we would like to inform you about the Postgraduate Program’s regulations and entry requirements which will help all candidates to properly prepare (further information will be provided at the end of August). First of all, we suggest that you read the Government Gazette Issue (ΦΕΚ 107355/B7) that has been approved by the Greek Ministry of Education (Ministerial decree: GGI/ ΦΕΚ 1929 issue B’/17-07-2014) and can be found on our website. Program Title “Master in Drama and Performing Arts in Education and Lifelong Learning Objective The Postgraduate Program is about the theoretical study and research of the development and application of drama and performing arts as a teaching methodology in the field of education and life-long learning. Location The Postgraduate Program will take place in the facilities of the Department of Theatre Studies in the School of Fine Arts and in other public areas in Nafplio and Argolis. Fees The Postgraduate Program tuition fee payable by each enrolled student will be determined by the University committee. For the academic year 2014-2015 it is estimated that each student will pay €1.300 per semester (€3.900 in total). Duration The duration of the postgraduate program is three (3) semesters of full time study. During the first and second semester class attendance is compulsory, with only a 20% of absence in each module. The third and last semester each enrolled student is required to prepare his/her postgraduate thesis under the guidance of one supervisor, who is either a faculty member of the University of Peloponnese or from a different university, and two co-supervisors. Applicants The Postgraduate Program accepts graduates from both national and foreign recognised universities as well as technological institutes. According to our Program’s policy and guidelines prior study in a related discipline is not a prerequisite. Also, students with interdisciplinary backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply. Supporting Documents Potential candidates must present the following supporting documents at the Admission Office of the Department of Theatre Studies (upon invitation and in the beginning of September) Application (available online or at the Admission Office of the Department of Theatre Studies, see appendix A). Curriculum Vitae which should contain: a) the candidate’s education, professional experience, research work and publications, papers or essays, and b)a one-page presentation of the candidate’s research interests, including the reasons why she or he is interested in joining the Postgraduate program. Sealed and certified copies of awards and certificates. Final-year undergraduates may submit their candidature for evaluation; however, in order for them to be accepted onto the Postgraduate Program, they must complete their studies before the enrolment. Furthermore, candidates, who have been awarded a university or technological degree by foreign Higher Education Universities or Technological Institutions, must have their degree recognized by the National Academic Recognition Information Centre of Greece (NARIC). Notarized photocopy of the candidate’s ID card (both sides). Sealed and certified transcript from the university or technological institute the candidate has graduated (with analysis of the grades, the essays, and the names of the supervising professors). Proof of participation in conferences and research programs (certified photocopies) Copies of scientific publications and articles in Greek or foreign journals, or papers in the proceedings of scientific conferences that were held in Greece or abroad. Certified copy(ies) of other postgraduate degree(s) awarded by Higher Education Universities or Technological Institutions. Certified copy(ies) of other degree(s) awarded by Higher Education Universities or Technological Institutions. Proof of proficiency in English language or another language at least B2 level (e.g, either First Certificate in English Language, or TOEFL, or evidence of previous study in an Anglophone institution). In case the language proficiency certification cannot be provided, the candidate(s) must sit and pass an English language proficiency test preferably with a high score. Certification of computer skills (i.e., ECDL). Proof of professional experience. Dates and Deadlines Applications will be accepted from the 1st to 15th of September. Two days later, on the 17th of September the English language written examination will take place for those who are not able to show proof of English language proficiency. Three days later, on the 20th of September, the admission examinations will be conducted in two subject areas (i.e., Drama in Education and Research Methodology in the Humanities). Further information regarding the admission examinations will be announced at the end of August. The final list with the successful candidates will be posted between the end of September and the beginning of October. Information regarding the enrolment procedure will follow. We are estimating that classes will begin on the 17th of October 2014. Criteria and Selection Process The program is looking for students of exceptional performance. The selection is based on the principle criteria: The candidate’s overall grade in the two written examinations: a) Pedagogy and Drama in Education, b) Research Methodology focusing on Drama in Education. (60%) The following accomplishments and competences will be also taken into account (40%): The grade of the candidate’s bachelor degree; or the overall grade of modules completed for those candidates who have not graduated yet. The candidate’s performance in her/his undergraduate thesis. The candidate’s proficiency in English or another foreign language (e.g. a high score at the English language proficiency test). Proof of computer skills. Another university diploma or postgraduate degree. The candidate’s research experience (relevant to the Postgraduate Program). The candidate’s scientific publications. The candidate’s professional experience Enrolment The Postgraduate Program will accept a maximum of thirty two (32) students. The minimum number of students required for the smooth realization of the Postgraduate Program is eighteen (18). Attendance Attendance is compulsory in the first two semesters, where students are entitled to a 20% of absence in every module. The classes (theoretical and technical/practical) will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and occasionally on Sundays. Faculty The postgraduate program is taught by faculty members of the Department of Theatre Studies, lecturers from other departments of the University of Peloponnese, visiting lecturers from recognised universities from around the country, specialised researchers who are notable in the field, distinguished lecturers from foreign universities with relevant specialisations and prominent researchers and artists who are active both in Greece and abroad.
