The training will help you understand the connection between health and housing and how to take a holistic approach to identify and resolve problems, which threaten the health and wellbeing of residents. Everyone from a public health nurse visiting a client to an environmental health professional doing a rodent inspection will gain insight into how housing and health are related and actions they can take to improve the health of their clients. This two-day course brings together professionals with a variety of perspectives and experiences in a series of exercises — keeping the training lively and engaging. It identifies root causes of health problems in a home and links them to seven principles of healthy housing: keep it dry; keep it clean; keep it pest-free; keep it ventilated; keep it safe, avoid contaminants; and maintain the house. In 1971 he began his career in environmental health as an inspector with the Allegheny County Health Department in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Chuck is currently a Senior Lecturer and Undergraduate Program Advisor in the University of Washington’s Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences. He is the principal investigator on a cooperative agreement between the Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs (AEHAP) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designed to improve environmental health practice through promoting and strengthening environmental health academic programs. Chuck remains professionally active in environmental and public health professional organizations; including the American Public Health Association where he chaired the Education Board, and co-chaired the Joint Policy Committee for two years. He is a diplomate in the American Academy of Sanitarians and a member of the Board. She has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Washington, at North Seattle Community College, a guest lecturer at both South Seattle Community College and at the National Sustainable Building Advisor Program. Aileen is the Executive Director for CLEARCorps Pacific Northwest (an AmeriCorps program) and is the Director of the Master Home Environmentalist© (MHE©) program. Since the program’s inception in 1992, the MHE program has helped to make over 1500 homes, families and especially children, healthier. Aileen is the only MHE© Master Trainer and has successfully trained over 22 ALA affiliates, county health departments and other organizations in the MHE program. She is a Master Trainer in the Open Airways for Schools Program, a Certified Cultural Competency Trainer and a Certified Tools for Schools Trainer.
