MANAGEMENT AND
COACHING ACADEMY
Announcing the launch of Sun Valley Equine Management and
Coaching Academy by Sun Valley Stables and Waterside Stud.
This course is designed to facilitate the
requirement by SASCOC that all sporting
coaches become qualified by 2016. This course
will be a full time, one year practical and
theoretical equestrian course.
Preparation of candidates for the Equestrian
Qualification Authority of South Africa
(EQASA) Level 1. This is part of the IGEQInternational Group of Equestrian
Qualifications and is an Internationally Recognised qualification.
This one year course will commence in July 2013.
Students will have the opportunity to improve their personal riding, coaching,
stud and equine management skills. This course is held in English, but most of
our lecturers are fluent in Afrikaans. Residential and non-residential options
available. This course will be directed by Dr Kirsten Loots
(Bachelor of Commerce ( B.Com) and Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc)),
EQASA level 2 coach, a well known vet, coach and instructor. She will be
assisted by top class, internationally recognised equine experts. Accepting
applications for 2013/2014 enrolment, all applications will be closed on the 13
May 2013.

Sun Valley stables and Waterside Stud
Situated in Sun Valley, just north of Kyalami, The property is 38ha in extent and
is home to approximately 130 horses. All the horses are stabled at night and
have large grazing paddocks for the day.
Sun Valley Stables is a riding school and also a competitive livery yard. The
main focus is instruction of children and juniors. The riding school has 20
ponies and horses used for teaching children and juniors to ride. In house shows
and pony camps are held regularly. We strive to teach children in a safe and fun
environment.
Competitive children and juniors are mentored and coached to a top level. Our
pupils regularly represent GHS on provincial teams and are also very successful
in Inter-schools competitions. Students compete in showing, dressage,
equitation and show jumping.
Waterside Stud
Breeders of quality sports ponies and horses. Our ponies are welsh and part bred
welsh. We have four pony stallions. Waterside ponies have excelled across the
disciplines.
Waterside Stud also breeds Warmblood horses.
Sun Valley Stables and Waterside Stud will provide the facilities and horses for
the practical training of students. Formal lectures will take place in the upstairs
Lecture Room. Formal lectures will be followed up with practical training.
Students will receive riding lessons to improve their personal riding. During the
second semester students will teach both group and private lessons. Log books
for module 4 and 5 will be completed using this practical experience.
The intense practical and theoretical training will prepare students for
modules 1 – 5 of the EQASA exams. On completion of the course students
should have achieved their Instructors level 1 certificate, their first aid course
and a certificate in basic stud management.
Accommodation
Students are accommodated in self catering
cottages on the Sun Valley Stables/Waterside
Stud property. These cottages are secure and
in close proximity to the stables.
