Press Release April 23, 2015 Do Some Good as You Move Out Heart of Texas Goodwill Partners with Baylor and UMHB for Annual Donation Drives April 23, 2015— Nearly three million students live in on-campus housing in 2,100 colleges and universities across the country. In the rush to move out at the end of the academic year, many students discard clothing, electronics, books and furniture — sending tens of thousands of pounds of usable goods to the landfills from each school. During the average move-out on college campuses, up to half of recoverable items are lost — but there is an alternative. Heart of Texas Goodwill will partner with Baylor University and UMHB by hosting donation drives as students move out of on-campus housing. H.O.T. Goodwill and Baylor will host the annual Take-It-Or-Leave-It Donation Drive to assist Baylor students by collecting usable, unwanted items. Dan Nisely, Heart of Texas Goodwill CEO says, “The Donation Drive is a hassle-free way for Baylor and UMHB students to donate unwanted items at the end of the school year. Not only will they keep their stuff out of the local landfills, but by donating to Goodwill, they can help strengthen the local community.” H.O.T. Goodwill and UMHB will host the Give & Go Donation Drive, which also benefits the environment by keeping useful items out of landfills, and will help fund vital job training, career placement and other Goodwill® services. “Let’s say you have a lamp that you were using in your dorm room this school year, but you don’t need it next year,” said Nisely. “By donating, we can put it up for sale in one of our retail stores, and the money we collect for selling that item goes directly into creating jobs. It’s easy for you, it’s good for the environment, and it helps the community.” Baylor donation collection will take place May 7-15, 2015 from 8:00am to 4:30pm at University Parks Apartments, Fairmont Apartments, 10th Street and Bagby and 2nd Street and Bagby. UMHB donation collection will take place May 2-10, 2015 from 8:00am to 4:30pm at Independence Village and College View Apartments and in many of the residence halls on campus.
