ST JAMES MUSWELL HILL
Church Family News for Sunday 20 September 2015
Dear All
As a church we are called to share what we have with one another, and so if you
are in need of food yourself please contact rachel.elliott@st-james.org.uk, in
confidence, as we would love you to take some home.
We keep saying there’s lots going at this time of year - but there really is!
On Saturday, the PCC (Church Council), Pastorate leaders and some of the staff
will be spending the day praying and planning - please do pray for us that we
remain faithful to God and ambitiously obedient as we look ahead.
SHAPE is coming soon. This is a one evening session to help you discover the gifts
God has given you, and the place where you can serve. Thursday 1 October, led
by me.
And two days later, Saturday 3 October, we are arranging a special tour of part of
the British Museum, with an Old Testament expert who is a member of St
James. This will be fascinating.
TEATIME SENIORS GROUP
Next week, Wednesday 23 September, we will be trying something new
and playing 'Beetle' prior to afternoon tea. Meet as usual in the centre at
2.30pm, all seniors welcome. For more information please contact Gill Brazier 202
8883 6453, gebrazier@gmail.com, or just turn up, there is a small charge of £1.50.
Do pick up a card with more details about these or any other events.
THE BIBLE IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM
Dr Seulgi Byun, member of St James and Old Testament teacher at Oak Hill, will
be leading a tour of the Old Testament part of the British Museum on Saturday 3
October. The group will be leaving St James at 9.00am and travelling to the
museum together. To sign up email andrea.bleakley@st-james.org.uk
MISSION OF THE MONTH – Jane Ingle
Jane is working as a linguist in the Bamenda region of Cameroon with Wycliffe
Bible Translators. She would really value your prayers for:
Accommodation: For suitable long-term accommodation in Ndop preferably
sharing with new colleagues
Work: Peace for Jane as she faces a delay in her work but thanks for support from
consultants and colleagues. Pray for wisdom as Jane works as a technical advisor
to a committee making decisions on all aspects of the writing system.
Spreading the Word: Pray for other villages on the Ndop Plain where there is
currently a lack of community support for Bible translation.
For more information please see the Mission board in church or contact Julia
Awty at Julia.awty@googlemail.com.
HARVEST COLLECTION NEXT SUNDAY 27 SEPTEMBER
We collect food all year round for the soup kitchen (see ‘the Munchbox’ at the
back of church, and the list of required food) but for our Harvest celebration we
will be doing a special collection at all our services too. If you are able to
contribute we would love: pasta, rice, tinned vegetable soup, long life milk, sugar,
tinned fruit (not grapefruit), tinned prunes, tuna, chutney, evaporated milk,
custard, rice pudding, ketchup, brown sauce, herbs, stock cubes, salt and pepper.
A donation of heavy duty can openers would be hugely helpful as well.
CHORAL EVENSONG
Choral Evensong, next Wednesdsay 23 September at 7.30pm in church. Music
includes C H Parry and St James’ friend Robert Evans. A wonderful way to pray
and reflect during a busy autumn.
ST JAMES PRESCHOOL
St James Pre-school has a vacancy for a child aged 3-4 years, in the morning
sessions. Please call Tracey on 0208 444 4033 for more information.
PLEASE PRAY FOR
Amrik, a three-year old boy who suffers from frequent life-threatening epileptic
fits, and his mother Birinder.
For your diaries…
Lunchtime Concert on Saturday 3 October, 12noon, to hear Windmill (Wind)
Ensemble.
