QUESTIONS!
How do I find out about scholarships?
Hit the books. Doing research can help you find scholarships that you may not have heard about. Most public
and campus libraries carry scholarship guides. Ask the librarian for help. Look under “Financial Aid”, “Student
Aid” and “Scholarships”.
Ask Employers. Your parents might already be aware if scholarships are provided for children of employees
through their workplace. Ask them to check with their Human Resource department to see what is available.
The staff should be able to provide information on application and deadlines. If you are employed, check with
your own employer, too. Be sure to finish any forms required on time.
Check local scholarships. Many community organizations, churches and clubs offer scholarships. Check the
scholarship bulletins at your school frequently for information. Many scholarships cycle annually so do your
research early and often, even before your senior year.
Search the Net. Using keywords, you can find a wealth of free scholarship info on the Web. Many sites link to
the application, but be careful….
Don’t Get Scammed! Unfortunately in the effort to pay for college, many students and their parents can fall
prey to scholarship scams. Visit the Federal Trade Commission “Scholarship Scam Page”. The FTC works to
prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace.
In researching sources of college funding, students are encouraged to seek out free services and information,
such as those listed below.
