Edinburgh Furniture Initiative
Edinburgh Furniture Initiative (EFI) sells quality used furniture and appliances donated by the
residents of Edinburgh and the surrounding area. The project currently undertakes over 1,000
deliveries and 3,000 uplifts of furniture and diverts over 700 tonnes of usable furniture from landfill
every year
EFI is a project of Four Square, an umbrella organisation containing 8 projects dealing with the rights
and needs of homeless people in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
Collecting, transporting, storing and distributing household furniture and other items to ensure the
provision of a reliable service.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Vehicle

Drive vehicle in course of deliveries and collections

Be responsible for daily and weekly roadworthiness checks and cleanliness of vehicles

Report any faults or defects

Keep records of mileage and fuel
Warehouse

Record incoming and outgoing stock

Safely handle stock including furniture, appliances and paint

Maintain and organise stock

General Duties

Receive regular and planned supervision from Project Manager

Ensure that the Health and Safety standards of EFI are maintained

Take every care to avoid damage to property

Participate in the overall development of EFI

Assist in the training of volunteers

Work in accordance with designated work plan

Participate in all relevant training opportunities as agreed with the Project Manager

Complete all appropriate paperwork

Actively support and implement Four Squares Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety Policies

Undertake any other reasonable duties as appropriate

Undertake weekend work where required

Work in the EFI store where required, carrying out the set-up of the store and taking payments
and arranging deliveries where necessary
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Clean driving licence

Physical ability to cope with demands of post

Ability to carry out stock control

Ability to complete basic forms and records

Ability to work as part of a team and communicate with other members of staff

Ability to work on own initiative

Ability to work with the general public

Ability to deal with vulnerable people

A basic understanding of issues such as homelessness, poverty and recycling would be helpful
