IHSBCA HALL OF FAME NOMINATION FORM TWO WAYS TO BE SELECTED TO THE IHSBCA HALL OF FAME: 1) Nomination and Vote by the IHSBCA membership and Hall of Fame members: Must be nominated by current IHSBCA member Must at least receive 65% of the entire votes cast. 2) Nomination by Veterans Committee: Veterans Committee must nominate from the “Veterans List.” The Veterans List is made up of those persons whose baseball careers occurred before 1970. COMMITTEES FOR THE HALL OF FAME SELECTION PROCESS: 1) Screening Committee – 5 members (2 Hall of Fame members and the past IHSBCA President). Committee will be appointed each October by IHSBCA President 2) Veterans Committee – 6 retired coaches appointed yearly by the Retired Coaches Association TIMELINES AND GUIDELINES FOR THE SELECTION PROCESS May 1: There will be a reminder posted on the IHSBCA website that nomination forms are due by July 1. The nomination form will be posted on the website and will be accessible at all times. July 1: Nominations are due to the Executive Director by this date. The Executive Director’s contact information will be available on the nomination form. Mid-July: The Screening Committee will meet after the IHSBCA North-South All-Star Series to narrow the nominee list to no more than 8 coaches, 3 players, and 3 contributors. No more than 14 names can appear on the Hall of Fame ballot. September 15: Hall of Fame ballots will be mailed to all IHSBCA members and all Hall of Fame members. Mid-October: At a date to be determined by the Executive Director, all ballots will be returned to the Executive Director and the results will be tabulated. Late October: Within seven days after the posted deadline for the return of the ballots, the Executive Director will notify the nominees who have been selected for induction. Mid to Late January: The induction of the new members into the IHSBCA Hall of Fame will take place at the Hall Of Fame & Coach Of The Year banquet held each year at the annual IHSBCA State Clinic. PROCEDURES & DEFINITIONS FOR THE SELECTION PROCESS Definitions: Players – a player will be considered eligible for the selection process if his active playing career has been ended for a minimum of five years. Coaches – a coach will be considered eligible for the selection process after he has completed a minimum of 15 fifteen years of service as a coach and has made outstanding contributions to the IHSBCA and / or Indiana baseball, in general. Contributors - a person (living or deceased) that has made meaningful contributions to Indiana baseball. Veterans – a person who’s coaching career began before 1970 (date will be adjusted periodically). A list of veterans will be maintained by the Director of Veterans committee. Good Standing – A nominee for the selection process will have represented the game of baseball in Indiana with honor and respect. Procedures: Once a nominee’s name is placed on the ballot it will remain there for five (5) years based on the following conditions: o The nominee will initially remain on the ballot for two years (or until they are selected). o After two years, the nominee must receive at least 25% of the votes cast in order to remain on the ballot for the full five (5) years (or until selected). o Once removed from the ballot, the individual can be re-nominated after a two (2) year waiting period. During any given year, only four (4) nominees from the “Player, Coach, and Contributors” categories can be selected and the Veterans Committee can only select one (1) nominee to be inducted that year into the Hall of Fame. In the event there are less than (4) nominees from the “Player, Coach, and Contributors” category, the Veterans Committee can be granted an additional nominee for that specific year. The maximum number of nominees that can be selected yearly is five (5). A biographical sketch of each nominee will accompany their name on the ballot. This sketch should be completed on the form that is provided at the end of this nomination form. Forms that are not fully completed may jeopardize the nomination of that certain individual. Upon notification of induction into the IHSBCA Hall of Fame, the inductee may request the IHSBCA to provide an overnight room for the inductee and their spouse at the clinic / banquet site. The IHSBCA will provide two plaques. One plaque will be for the Hall of Fame and the second will be for the inductee or next of kin. The names of the Hall of Fame inductees, their biographical sketches, and a photograph will be forwarded to the Hall of Fame Director in Jasper, Indiana. The Director is responsible for preparation of the plaques for Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Items displayed in the Hall of Fame must be related to the inducted member or Indiana High School baseball. Exceptions are made at the discretion of selection committee members or for temporary special exhibits.
