Box Lunch: On the second day of the trip, we have a tight schedule between our visit to the Santa Barbara Museum and San Simeon - where we have reservations to see the Hearst Castle. For that reason, you will not have time to get lunch. We will provide you with a delicious box lunch prepared by Mrs. Andersen’s Deli and Bakery. The lunch will include a deli sandwich, salad, cookie and bottled water. We order the sandwiches in advance and need to know what your preference is. All the sandwiches are made with homemade breads. In May I will ask for your choice of sandwich. The choices are: • Ham on white • • • • Roast Beef on white Turkey on wheat Veggie on wheat Crab Salad on croissant roll 2. Continental breakfast: The last four mornings of the trip there will be a nice complimentary breakfast served at the hotels. *Hearst Castle: http://www.hearstcastle.org/ Our whole group will be taking Tour One at the castle. Tour One is especially nice for first-time visitors who have never been to the castle before. *Alcatraz: During the trip you will have free time when you can pursue areas of San Francisco on your own. If you are interested in visiting Alcatraz Island, you will need to make reservations at least a week in advance, because they are often booked by the time we arrive. Sunday, June 07 at 10:30 is the time you will want to book your ferry. The bus will drop us off at Fisherman’s Wharf and then you will walk a few blocks to the pier where the ferry is located. After the trip you will have time to eat lunch and spend some free time around the Wharf. For more information about the Alcatraz tour call (415) 981-7625 or visit http://www.nps.gov/alca/ *Weather: The weather on the trip will be cool to cold. The average daytime temperature is in the 60’s. It is suggested that you dress in layers to adjust with the fluctuations during the day. It’s possible that there could be heavy fog and rain. The weather is greatly affected by the colder Northern Pacific weather fronts and ocean currents. This is very different than weather and water in Southern California. On a clear afternoon the temperatures could reach into the 70’s. Evenings and nights are cooler and even cold along the beaches and coastlines, typically in the 50’s. You may want to bring a small blanket for use on the bus; we keep the temperature fairly cool. Mark Twain was quoted as saying, “The coldest winter he ever spent was summer in San Francisco”. It will be hard to imagine how cool it is on the coast when the temperatures in St. George will be in the 100’s. *Luggage/Carry-ons: You may bring one bag and a carry-on. Whatever you have on the bus must fit under your seat or in the overhead rack. A moderate size backpack or tote will fit comfortably in the space. All drink containers must have a tight (screw-on) lid – NO paper cups, with or without lids. A very small lunchbox size cooler (the kind that holds a 6-pack) will fit under the seat, if you want to bring a few snacks. Every day you will have easy access to shopping, so it is not necessary to bring everything you “might” need.
